Caitlin Clark

NBC's probably kicking themselves in the dick over CC not making the olympic team.

I'm not gonna pretend I know if she's good enough to make it, but I doubt the other guards are commanding double and triple teams off ball.

From a marketing standpoint, Team USA really f'd up.

Edit: word is she wouldn't have played much (which seems reasonable) and they were worried about a frenzy of media and public freaking out that she wasn't getting playing time.

She would have been Christian Laettner on the ‘92 Dream Team.

Edit:
Just saw the roster, and I get why CC wasn’t selected. That squad is stacked.

You realize he was the ultimate villain and the point is this is villain behavior, right? However, you got a link? I remember him calling Jordan whiney but I don't remember that.

Yes, he was a villain, and I don’t have a problem with Reese being labeled a villain.

I don’t have a link, sorry. I watched an old basketball game on Youtube a few years ago, and during a halftime or pregame interview, Bill Laimbeer was talking about Michael Jordan, and he said something like (not an exact quote, because I can’t remember verbatim), “Jordan has excellent PR people, but he’s no different than the rest of us.”

I agree that this was a missed opportunity. This was a chance to continue to grow the women’s game on an international stage. The casual viewer would certainly be tuning on NBC . I don’t know that anyone outside of Geno or serious women’s bball fans care that 41 year old Diana Taurasi is going for her 6th gold medal. Good for her I guess, but she could also grow into a role of being a good ambassador for the women’s game and allow younger players to have an opportunity to play in the Olympics .

I actually agree with the team not including her. They want to win. That is their goal. Even if CC is a top 12 player, she probably doesn't play much, so nobody watches, and the media and fans all just talk about who is on the bench instead of who is playing.

It's the Tebow thing (and Kaepernick). You might be good enough to make the team but we don't want the circus.

Caitlin Clark is growing the game one way or another and it will be her turn in 4 years, and it will all be fine.

I’ve yet to see an argument for CC being selected based on her being one of the top 3-4 guards, or top 12 overall player in the professional ranks.

She’s not…not yet at least.

Replacing Turasi with Ogumbowale is a more legitimate argument than CC getting a spot based on anything but merit at the professional level.

I’m not really for or against . I was agreeing that from a marketing standpoint there was an opportunity to keep the momentum going for the WNBA and women’s basketball in general. I honestly don’t watch much, if any women’s basketball, but at the same time I don’t watch a lot pro basketball either. I know you’re a big nba fan. It just takes me a lot to get into it. I watched 2/3 of the game 1 and I’ll watch tonight, but for the most part I don’t enjoy the style of the game as much as I used to, despite todays players being so ridiculously talented.

Arike Ogunbowale might play for Nigeria from a couple stories Ive seen

The casual fan would have tuned in to watch CC sit the bench during any meaningful minutes, and get limited garbage PT in blowout wins against the likes of Turkey and Nicaragua.

No one arguing CC should have been selected is saying she’s one of the nation’s 12 best players at this time. She’s not an upgrade over any of the guards selected, including Turasi.

Her time will come in 2028 and I fully expect she’ll make the most of it.

I'm gonna go ahead and say she's better than Taurasi. 16 ppg and 1 apg shooting 37% and I've turned on the Mercury a few times...she's not getting the defensive attention CC gets. She's trash. More turnovers than assists?

And I’m gonna go ahead restate the real snub was Arike.

CC is not better than Arike.

The thing is, this is not an award. This isn't about getting the best 12 Americans together because they deserve it. You gotta have people willing to do dirty work, which sometimes means you gotta snub a superstar (like Dame) for a borderline star (like Jrue). You gotta have people who are fine not playing. You gotta have people that fit the vibe. Taurasi is the Larry Bird of this group. Larry Bird wasn't one of our 12 best players in 1992 but he was one of the best 12 for that specific Dream Team.

Jrue has a ring in Milwaukee, and appears to be the missing piece to get Tatum and Boston over the hump.

Dame replaced Jrue in Milwaukee with limited results even when Giannis was healthy.

Jrue is a better floor leader and defender…bad comp imo.

I am (and you are) the rare person who is team Jrue here. There is a reason Dame makes $20m more than Jrue and the market also established teams were willing to trade way more for Dame than Jrue.

And yet, Jrue is staring at another shot at a ring while Dame is home watching.

IDK what your point is. Jrue can have another title and both of them will start next season with everyone still calling Dame a superstar and nobody calling Jrue that.

I'm not dogging Jrue. I have been team Jrue forever. I was calling Bucks a super team bc they got Jrue and literally nobody agreed with me. The point is that you can't just have the 12 biggest superstars. You gotta have guys to do the dirty work. You gotta have leaders and culture guys. You're agreeing with me at every turn but somehow have a problem with the comp that perfectly illustrates the point.

In four years will anyone still care?

Not being ugly about it, but girl is bringing eyeballs to the game. There is an old saying, when the iron's hot: iron. CC is the hottest thing in women's basketball.

People watch Caitlin Clark because they like how she plays, and she'll be better 4 years from now

Jrue is about winning, leading, and playing both ends.

Dame is only about getting his. Winning, leading, and defense arent priorities.....

Lost me at Dame.

Kinda like Isiah Thomas being left off the Dream Team.
