Calapari says, "Tennessee is playing better than anyone in the country right now."

I'm still not sold on him but I'm impressed on how his team has progressed these last 3 games. I just wanted to know everyone opinions on how they feel about this team right now.

How have they progressed? Things have never been that terrible under Martin, but they certainly aren't very good right now. This is his worst coaching job yet, by far.

I am have been offered to work for a local baseball team. This will take up my time for the rest of the Spring and so I cannot continue doing the reports. I love doing them but it's not doable and fair to do one or two the rest of the year. I will still be around and hang with you guys. Just can't do the reports. So I leave you with one more thought.

1. Coach Martin needs to be fired as soon as the season is over. I like the guy, but he not the man for the job here.

This from Z's last postgame report.

Don't get the wrong idea BTO. I like ya; you are one of the few level-headed and consistent posters this board has. But it sure looks like you turned on Martin here.

I think this is what everyone else is referring to, for the record. I remember being distinctly surprised.

Who has who's number?

Bruce has calapari's number. That's why I put it in parentheses directly after Bruce's name. I'm not sure what their actual record head to head is but Bruce seemed to win games against cal at both Memphis and kentucky. And capalari has almost always had the better players and higher ranked teams in this games

Pearl had Calipari's number about as much as Fulmer had Spurrier's.

Maybe you should have checked his head to head against Pearl before making such a startement, because Pearl is 3-6 against Cal, 2-2 at Memphis and 1-4 at Kentucky.

Which is funny because if 3-6 is having Cal's number, then Martin has his number too.

In spite of his reputation here, I think BTO has been pretty consistent all year. I think everyone here was pretty much in agreement it looked like Martin had to go, as was I, but at least for me that was assuming we were going to lose 1 or 2 more. I can't speak for BTO but I'm going to guess that was his line of thinking as well.

Plus there's plenty of time for Martin to tick everyone off again.

Yup. I've maintained he makes the dance he should be retained, jmo.

I don't remember my exact thought process, but that very well may have been sarcasm. That was a crappy loss, this place had become a $hit storm, there's a good chance I was being a smartass.

Why do we get so excited when a rival coach says something nice about us? Is that news, really? It's like Saban complimenting Dooley (because he knew he could school Dools EVERY YEAR! Forget it, it doesn't mean anything. I'd rather be talking about how we beat KY! Forget Calipari!

No josh, Martin sucks, remember?

Cal isn't afraid of Martin, but he was very afraid of Pearl that's why he snitched him out to the NCAA.

As for Martin, the jury is still out on him. A first round loss in the SECT could be devastating if it keeps the Vols out of the NCAAT for the third straight season. We will see what happens, but either way GBO!!

Pearl had Calipari's number about as much as Fulmer had Spurrier's.

The difference is classified has always had the far superior talent yet Bruce won a few against him and always played them close. In the case of us vs Florida... We often had the best team and yet lost the vast majority of those games

Always played them close? Now you're really just making stuff up.

The third time Cal being afraid of Pearl in this thread; and the third time I'll point out Cal is 6-3 against Pearl, and 4-1 at UK.

I think the issue is yes, Cal was 6-3 against Pearl, but Pearl presented a real threat to Cal, and Cal viewed him as such. It was the root of their rivalry. It isn't a pro-Pearl argument to say that he and Cal had a rivalry, and that Pearl was as much a threat to him, both at Memphis and UK, as anyone else. Their dislike for each other only further perpetuated the rivalry.

Cal was NEVER complimentary of anything Tennessee when Pearl was coach. He has glowing comments for us at every turn since he was fired. That isn't a coincidence.

I can buy that and don't disagree, however that's much different than saying Cal was scared of him or that Pearl had his number.

Martin gave UK its worst loss in the series, so it is not like Saban talking about Dooley. Dooley didn't come within 30 points of Saban. While I agree that Cal has his motives, it's not solely about our coach.

Maybe I misunderstand what you're saying here...but didn't CBP have a winning record against Florida while at UT?

As for Calipari not liking CBP...wasn't CBP the winningest coach in the SEC during his tenure in Knoxville? If so, I'm sure that would make Calipari sweat a bit...especially as it relates to potential recruits deciding to go to UT, instead of UK.

I'd keep offering glowing compliments of CCM if I was him as well...I don't think Calipari feels threatened in the least bit by CCM's recruiting prowess.

He's talking football. The comparison of Pearl having Cal's number was made to Fulmer having Spurrier's number, in sarcasm obviously.

I still think it was more Cal just hates Pearl. Given the results of the two while Cal was at UK while Pearl was at UT, I can't see how Cal felt too threatened. It was only 2 years and 1 of those Pearl was almost dead man walking, so it's hard to tell.

Didn't Bear Bryant used to say that right before Tennessee and Alabama played every year?
