California prop 8:

Civil unions do not carry the same rights as marriage in the United States. I also thought we were smarter than the "separate but equal" mindset in the US.

And that applies to marriage how?

Good try trying to compare race to sexual preference.

They already are.

The people voted it down.

Let every state vote for it and if it passes so be it.
So will you explain the reason why it should be banned? You keep running away from the question.

While I personally find homosexuality preverse and pretty much disgusting as a concept, I'm just not getting why anyone cares what two other consenting adults do in private and I for sure don't understand why anyone else cares what they call themselves, be it civil union, married, etc.

Who cares?

that's my feeling exactly. i could care less.

Do anti same-sex marriage folks have some kind of mental deficiency that makes them think that if another person links something to race that it trumps the argument because gay people weren't slaves and didn't get lynched so they should just quit their whining about rights? I hate to break it to you but you're wanting a separate name for marriage with that comes with equal rights. That is separate but equal.

How is a gay relationship not totally separate from a heterosexual relationship?

They can't even have sexual intercourse.

It's not the same, at all.

As to why I am against it... it goes against my beliefs and I simply am not for it.

I will vote against it when given the chance.

There are different types of heterosexual relationships. Should they have a different name for each one? So you believe something that is why you're against it (though you won't say what it is) so you feel that gives you the right to deny other people rights? Are you comfortable being a bigot?

This thread is stupid!

:)

If a dude wants to stick his pecker in another dude's rear end let them have at it!

You're reason for not allowing homosexuals to get married is the definition of bigotry. I'm not calling you anything. You are defining yourself.

Not meaning to put words in his thread, but I think what he is saying is that the argument "I am opposed to homoesxuals because I am opposed to homsexuals" is not really much of an argument and suggests that your dislike is really borne of something irrational, which is almost never a good thing.

homosexuals demanding that their unions be called "marriage" isn't any where close to being on equal ground with women's suffrage or the civil rights of african americans, and native americans.

I was under the impression, when I am asked to vote I had the right to vote based on my beliefs and not be ridiculed for it... like you are doing.

I stayed at a B&B (Chester A. Arthur that was great!) this weekend in D.C. and had great political conversations with the two gay men who ran the place.

Just because my personal beliefs don't fall in line with theirs doesn't mean I can't be respectful of and to them and learn things from them.

My wife and I enjoyed their company.

If that makes me a bigot so be it.

I'm Christian and it doesn't fall in line with how I view society, marriage or homosexuality.

Nothing more nothing less.

Just because you can keep friendly company with homosexuals doesn't mean that you're reasonings against same-sex marriage aren't bigoted.

Well, now, see, that's a reason! You oppose homosexuality on religious principle and that is your right. We can debate that.

The complaint earlier was that you basically said you opposed homsexuality "because." And that is not ever going to go over well on VN, at least in my experience.
