Calimari says SEC title means nothing

As much as I hate UK and Cal, he is right on this one. The only schools to which conference titles mean anything are schools that haven't won many of them.

Since Cal and KY don't care anyway, hopefully the Vols can somehow put a BIG "L" on them tomorrow, I mean, why nshould they even be bothered with playing against such an inferior opponent as TN.

Welcome to VolNation; but I guarantee she wouldn't want to play him this year unless she enjoys getting the crap kicked out of her.

Thanks for the welcome! I think the way the Lady Vols are playing right now.....that they would give UCONN a game at least. I was just stating what I stated. This might not be our year, but I think we will own everyone for at least the next 2 years!

If we met UCONN in the tourney and kept the game under 15 points, I would be pretty happy with that. And I hope your right about us owning after this year.

To paraphrase, it means nothing to him but a seeding in the ncaa tourney. What a slap in the face to the entire conference. That being said, it really wonit mean anything when UK has it vacated in 5 or 6 years. Hope you are proud of your smileball of a coach Kentucky! Some of you might not like Bruce, but at least he isn't like this guy...

It really does mean very little. I have no problem with slamming Calipari, but the man has a point.

You know if Bruce Pearl wasnt at Tenn the basketball probaly would be middle of pack rather than winning the east the last 4 yrs. Give me a break. Calipari and Kiffin are both in the same boat. Win at all coast no matter if you get the school your at into any trouble. Just move on to the next job.Ask U Mass and Memphis. Ky wont win it all this year. Cal had more talent at Memphis and couldnt win. Ky will play some team in the NCAA tourny with some good guards and plays zone D good and they will go down. Ky fans enjoy while you can you know whats comming. lol

Its like this....comes conference dominance comes conference championships, then comes good seeding in the big dance, then National Championships. Pearl has got us in the"winning when it counts path". It takes time to build a winning tradition. As for Calipari and UK fans, they need to soak it all now. What will they be saying when they are having to give up wins and championships(if any) and losing scholarships and nobody will want to go there? From our perspective things are looking good.

Conference championship banners don't hang from the rafters at Rupp, man.

Ridiculous, but par for the course.

The players that have played for KY for more than 15 min. might think it's pretty dandy hanging up there...and also the students and alumni.
If Kentucky wins the SEC and loses in the 2nd round of the tournament, the season is a failure. That's just the way it is in the bluegrass. Kentucky basketball is the top of the mountain. The lights are white hot at the mountain top and expectations are even higher.

To reply to the topic at hand.

I for one don't think the SEC championship "means nothing". However, the Vols also aren't swimming in SEC banners either.

But let's put it this way. If for the next 10 years straight, the Vols win the outright SEC championship and SEC Tournment but never get past the Sweet 16, would you consider this a successful time period?

I'd say nope.

Just out of curoisty UK fans, what was/is the fanbase's thoughts on that 02-03 team who got derailed from at least a Final Four appearance by one freak injury to Bogans?
