Calipari comment

I don't agree. Is he the best X's and O's coach? No. However people seem to conveniently forget what he did at UMASS and that he rebuilt Memphis.

You wanna talk about a rebuild in Memphis? He only won when the rest of the league went to dreck. How was he doing when Cincinnati, DePaul, Louisville, and Marquette were the league competition?

What was his record against the SEC while he was at Memphis?

What does league play have to do with making the Elite 8 and Final Four?

How did he do against the SEC this year?

Good for you that you left out his success at UMASS and leading them to their first NCAA Tourney in 30 years, with one NBA player during his time there.

He did share a conference title while those teams were there and never won less than 21 games... he really struggled.

He was a common NIT contender until the cream of CUSA left the dead weight behind.

Good thing for you that you left out his miserable coaching failure between UMASS and UM.

I revert back to my original point. Cal looks good when he has a decided talent advantage. When the talent advantage is negated his coaching ability is very suspect.

His stint at UMASS proves you are totally wrong.

Did a miserable stint in the NFL tarnish Saban?

I'm shocked Cal couldn't get it done with Keith Van Horn, Lucious Harris and Stephon Marbury

His second year at Memphis he went 27-9 and 12-4 in the conference and yes they went to the NIT.

In the four years before he took over Memphis was 16-15, 17-12, 13-15 and 15-16... the next year Cal won 21 games.

No argument from me - Tic Price and Johnny Jones are worse coaches than Cal.

Cal's coaching record while at Memphis against: Cincinnati 5-3; Marquette 2-0; Louisville 4-2; Depaul 2-1

So he had a combined 13-6 record against the four teams you listed.

If you want to use a guy's accomplishments from before most posters on here were born, have at it. Another "Butch Davis is a great coach" argument.

What? He last coached at UMASS in '95-'96.

The majority of posters here are over the age of 14.

How many conference titles or NCAA tournament wins while they were there?

But certainly not intellectually... Which brings us back full circle as to why people are trying to act like Calipari is a joke of a coach, despite him waxing the vols like it was the '80's in their last meeting.

Fair enough.

Oh good. You pick your one game for analysis and I'll pick mine. I'll start with 08.

I don't know why you are bothering. Pearl wins 20 + games every year and he's a god. Calipari does the same and he's a hack.

That's what I don't get. Cal has a winning record against all four teams listed, but that's not good enough.

He won 20 games every year at Memphis. He had one down year in '04-'05 but still won 22 games.

Hey, you are the one saying someone is a terrible coach. Not me. Your argument revolves around cherry-picking times and a listing excuses of why he was able to succeed despite his supposed ineptitude.

So we'll ignore tournament results, conference finishes, records, and every other metric that shows he has CLEARLY been a successful basketball coach, and focus on one game that was narrowly decided. We will also ignore what happened after that game for the rest of the season.

Yes, your argument is air-tight. Unfortunately, that is apparently leading to oxygen deprivation.
