Cam Robinson/Hootie Jones arrested for Bama

"I want to emphasize once again that the main reason I'm doing this is that I refuse to ruin the lives of two young men who have spent their adolescence and teenage years, working and sweating, while we were all in the air conditioning." - DA

I wonder if this guy loves migrant workers as much as he loves football players? lmao what a quote.

If one of Tennessee's players done the same thing, they would have been prosecuted. The NCAA will protect Bama at all costs.

In Tennessee. Yeah, probably. Just like if this happened in TX he would be prosecuted for sure. You dont keep a stolen gun in your lap if you're just chillin' or smokin'. These cats were up to no good. A blind man can see that.

Hopefully the kids learned their lesson. However, if they are involved in any other drug related charges, or God forbid a shooting, there are going to be a lot of stupid people from the DA to the general Bama fanbase with egg on their face.

Will be interesting to see how Saban handles this internally, if at all.

I've lost count:

The gun on Hootie's lap was not stolen. It was his gun that he placed in plain view and brought to the officer's attention.

Makes you wonder who are the truely privieged in this country? Makes me give the Title IX suit a second thought. Anyone, other than a potentially rich college athlete, would have been prosecuted.

New article says there were 4 in the car. Half a gram of weed found. (hardly high flyers) No one claimed ownership. Possessing the gun didn't break the law, so nothing suggested a further search. No evidence they released would suggest they would consent to search.

There were no justifiable grounds for prosecution under any evidence rule that exist.

Not worried about the legal gun, its the stolen one is a felony...I don't think these kids life should be ruin, but they should miss some games to show more than extra stairs will be ran for his actions.

The hidden gun under the seat was reported stolen, which is worse imo as no one is claiming ownership of it.

The problem is that two of the potential owners weren't mentioned in the incident report. It's really hard to build a case for constructive possession when you forget to mention half of the possible possessors.

Doesn't matter if you find the murder weapon if you don't play by the rules, improper search and seizure, Miranda rights, etc. it gets tossed.

It was a big break for these kids. I'm sure they will look at it as second chances. They've been busy for some time paying the price for their actions. Saban makes the call, all we get to do is comment, at length.

Forget competition.

I'm happy for the kid.

He didn't deserve to have his entire life messed up by one mistake.

That's right. He should be suspended for multiple games if Satan is serious about running a clean program, and then get on with his life. Hopefully he has learned from his mistake. Don't count on Satan suspending him for more than a half!

Smell of weed. Gun in lap. It doesn't matter if it was legal or not. A search was clearly justified at that point. Found drugs and another gun that was stolen. Charges should have been a no brainer. Only reason they were not is cash. Its that simple.

You were doing fine until right there.

Looks like these guys got off on a technicality and because some Bama donors decided to donate to the West Monroe DA's retirement fund...but there is no way that Saban will ever let these two on the field again :)

After the gun and weed were seen in plain sight the car should have impounded.

I had no idea the Alabama fans were so concerned about the future of young men! I don't want to ever hear an Alabama fan talk about some coach for not dismissing a player again!!!

You honestly think that Robinson and Jones should be dismissed from the program over this? For a non-violent, first time offense? Really? Really?

Drugs and a stolen gun? Yup.

They could go Juco and Saban would take them back the year after. Then they can attack a few students on campus, maybe do a little pistol whipping fools.
