Can you IMAGINE CPF demanding a celebration penalty?

bad football decision, but he clearly knows his team and what they needed. I would guess that his just making the "get a penalty" comment got some serious attention from his wandering style team.

I loved it, but I would have been cursing the television if it was Vols vs florida and CPF did that. It's easy to get excited in a game that don't matter when someone pulls one out of the air like that. Personally I was amazed Richt did it, and thrilled Georgia beat florida. I loved watching urban legend squirm bitch and moan to the refs. Kept thinking how in the hell did we smack Geo. in the mouth and let fla smack us???:ermm:

The Georgia game was at our place... I think that pretty much sums it up.

IMO, the outcome had nothing to do with the unsportsmanlike penalty. Any false emotion that it caused was deflated by the interception return for TD.

UGA was pumped from the beginning, no need for orchestrated emotion.

Theatrical -- Not game changing.

Negative, it fired up both sides, but then when UGA struck back with the 80 yard bomb, uga had the momentum and it was theirs for good.

Again, the worst case scenario is you get the ball back tied 7-7. And the way to keep your momentum is to go all-in balls-to-the-wall, which they did, and it paid off.

I think if he hadn't done that, and kicked to florida, florida STILL probably would have scored on that drive (and maybe in 4 plays anyway, since the field position was about average). And then a deflated UGA comes back on the field and tries to grind it out - and if they don't get a TD there, they give it back to the Gator's offense, who smells blood.

I liked the all-in call, and I think it is what the dawgs needed to beat the gators.

I will say the same thing I said on the other CFB forum I visit (its not a vols forum, just a d1a forum): that had to be the most BALLIN td celebration ever.

Richt and Miles have both gained new respect from me in the past few weeks, because both have balls and a fiery passion for the game, both of which we are sorely lacking on rocky top. (obviously miles due to his "we had a chance to beat that ass, so we did" against Auburn)

Sums what up? We have been a terrible home team for the past eight years. WE have won exactly three big home games, Fla in '04, Cal in '06 and Georgia '07. all of our signature wins have been on the road

When Florida ties the game in about 25 seconds, the yardage. The momentum they had was from the two weeks they had building up to this game.

You guys seem to forget that florida still started the drive with the ball on about their own 35, which is average.

Hell, florida's starting field position against Conservative "lets play field position" fulmer was probably better than their own 35.

Florida was probably pumped for that drive, but I don't think it mattered. I think Florida probably scores on that drive even if they aren't pumped.

But I seriously doubt UGA has the same success if they aren't pumped.

If UF's offense is so deadly as to almost score on you at will, what does it matter where they start from anyway? Might as well pump both teams up, since it won't really help them, as 7 points is the same if they are pumped or not.

The SEC should suspend Richt for that bush league move that could have started a big fight.

Little confused too. Since when was Neyland an advantage in the UGA series?

Well regardless of how any of us feel about it, Mark Richt must have gone to bed, kissed his wife goodnight and said "Mission Accomplished".

honestly, i think most of yall that didn't think that celebration fired UGA up and helped in the final outcome of the game are just mad that CPF didn't do something like it. Are yall serious?? Saying that Richt should get fined and what not..... Let's not forget that UF has OWNED UGA in that series (at least in the past 15 yrs). Richt was looking for any way to fire his team up, because he knew everybody in that UGA locker room before the game felt as if beating UF was almost impossible. Brilliant move on his part, he's got my respect.

Richt should be fined and suspended by the SEC. Had Meyer done the same thing after Florida tied it, there would have eventually been a major brawl. Imagine if UGA would have been playing the U.
What a ridiculous, over-exaggeration of a brilliant move by Richt

The pussification of this country is killing the sport

Kudos, Richt. I freakin LOVED your move.

Sending the whole team onto the field may have pumped his team up, but it was a little bush league; especially for a guy knocking his team 2 weeks ago for excessive celebration.

nothing bush league or dumb about. i'll give them the tying touchdown in trade for a w.

I think it was a stupid move. The guys didn't need anymore firing up. Maybe instead of excessive celebration, he should have talked to them about not getting a ton of personal fouls.

What happens if they celebrate like that, then Florida rattles off 40 unanswered? Richt looks like a jackass that can't control his team.

Should coaches let individual players celebrate in the endzone? I mean, it gets the guys fired up, and only costs them 15-30 yards....

I don't see any reason why Ga wouldn't be fired up already in the biggest game of their season, with ANY hope of winning the SEC on the line.

Maybe we should go stomp on opposing teams logos after our first score...it's not unsportsmanlike if it gets them fired up....right?

you can't say what if. it didn't happen so it didn't happen. stomping on logos is a different animal. that's classless and could get you're a$$ whipped.

I just don't see how rolling the dice and making stupid coaching decisions that have a poor chance of success, but happen to work is a sign of a good coach.

Not to go off subject, but Les Miles is an idiot for the calls he makes. Richt stood to either be remembered as some ballsy coach getting his team fired up, OR an idiot that rubbed it in and woke up the sleeping giant.

Saban in the UT-Bama game did that onside kick. If that doesn't work and we score, then bama fans would be ready to send him packing. However, because it worked, he's a genius and they're so happy to have a coach like that.

Anyone can be stupid and lucky.

how can you say that it has a poor chance of working. right now it's 1 for 1. for the less educated, that's 100%.

it's kind of funny to only look at the next series & not the final score...I think the celebration thing helped set the tone for the whole game. And by the way, I think this was a maneuver on Richt's part, not a coaching style. I don't fault him much for it..many who've claimed it teaches players to be unsportsmanlike are grotesquely overreacting, imo.

very good post.

I just want one thing. Mark Richt should catch the same hell Jimmy Johnson and Dennis Erickson caught for allowing their players to be exuberant. I find it absolutely hilarious that people who have tried to paint the U as the ultimate bad guy program are now celebrating UGA taking a page out of the Miami book.

Probably because unlike Miami, the UGA players didn't end up swinging their helmets and causing a brawl.

The Miami/FIU brawl and the UGA TD celebration are not even remotely the same.

In addition, the UGA radio team wasn't talking about taking the UF players out into the back and beating them up.

Sigh, that Miami guy....what an idiot

Well....

Potential good: Team gets fired up and you win

Potential bad:
fires Florida up, and they whip you
it starts a fight
someone gets ejected
the refs decide to call more than the 2 penalties they called.
someone gets hurt being stupid celebrating your first touchdown (don't tell me this doesn't happen)

To me, coaches work to do what it takes to give their team the best chance of winning. Pulling a Les Miles and being an idiot might work sometimes, but it's STILL a dumb move.
