Cancel Dr. Seuss

That would be good advice, if there were some other excuse or reason for what we see coming from the right. Folks who want to know the truth do not shun good information with knee jerk negatve reactions to it or middle school personal insults. We are talking about people who supported a President who was known to be an habitual liar with the business reputation of a con man. I could go on, but the reality is that many attacks we see against Biden have little basis other than the desire to divert attention away from the truth about Trump. You might think of that as honesty. I do not.
And you’re confusing opinion with fact.

Hey look, a song for adults juxtaposed with books for children. Great comparison. 🙄

Dr Suess has not been banned or canceled. 6 books from his library of 60 have been reviewed by HIS estate and THEY decided to discontinue them.

But for what it’s worth, the man does have a history of some overtly racists cartoons (made for adults) before he started writing children’s books. He also wrote and starred in a minstrel show in black face. Supposedly these views mellowed with age due to influence from his wife and many point to Horton Hears a Who as his apology of sorts.

All of this is worthy of discussion and reevaluating the pedestal the man has been put on in the pre-K eduction world. It’s not like there is a dearth of kids books out there if I Seuss were to be deemphasized or phased out.

Yeah no kids have ever heard WAP

What part of the books are racist?

And I don't want to hear any leftists talk about black face with the clear hypocrisy on that issue, see Virginia governor who is a democrat

I would like to hear Samuel L Jackson read a Suess book. But I want it read in Jackson's signature culture and style. Now, that would be epic.

who called for the government to direct decisions of private parties?

He clearly thinks this is being done by Dems. Republicans should be saying the market can do what the market wants to do. This is not a matter for politics since government has no role here.

It's called fear mongering and keeping the base whipped up, especially when 60% of their own base supports the COVID relief package. Can't have that!

It's good you feel this way about his tweet. The other side of the aisle feels the same when Ds conflate private decisions to Rs in politics. In that way, you are more alike with the Rs than you differ.

The fear mongering clearly worked, the Radical Right is having a meltdown over this nonsense - they are a tender and sensitive bunch.

I don't care who's responsible for the cancel Dr Seuss and Potatohead campaign.
It's the dumbest thing since...... removing Aunt Jemima's face from a pancake mix. If you're so offended with a black lady on a box just replace her with a white lady! Ya can still call it Aunt Jemima, white folks would love it. Hell sales would probably sky rocket.
No the new name for Aunt Jemima products, Pearl Milling Company. bawahaha. This country has lost it's damn mind.

It's Jake, black Jake from State Farm..........

He didn't call for any government action.

He is insinuating that these choices by private businesses are being forced upon them by Dem legislation. I’m going to assume he knows better but thinks it politically advantageous to stir up faux outrage.

While I have been aware of the Dr Seuss controversy for a few years, I have never heard of a politician calling for any action to address it. I would say the vast majority didn’t even know there was something to it.

I don't read it that way - I read it as the "woke" insanity that Dems tout is what leads to this and Dems in the majority means more preaching of the woke agenda.

As for Dr. Seuss the action appears to have originated with the NEA in dropping him from the national event that began with a strong link to his work and begins annually on his birthday. News stories picked that up and the Seuss Foundation reacted as did Biden in dropping any mention of Seuss from his talk about the Read Across America program.

15 years ago, I fulfilled an interim teaching position for 8th grade Language Arts/English at a local high school. I was there for 3 months while the regular teacher was out for back surgery. The classroom walls were a tribute to Phillip Fulmer...no posters about language, no encyclopedias, no dictionaries, no novels, nothing. The only technology I had was an overhead projector and a monitor with a VHS player. Yeah, some kinda technology. The students objected when I tried to introduce them to John Steinbeck, saying that they had only watched and been tested on Sponge Bob shows in the past. I checked out multiple copies of Dr. Seuss books for them to read and discuss. Sadly, those books were at their reading levels. I also brought in several copies of Cinderella for them to compare and contrast. Every culture has a Cinderella story. Will those be "banned" next ?"

In all honesty, I love Dr. Seuss. However, the books are used for more that learning to read. They have lessons in them that being ingrained in children. Most of his books and there were 60 of them teach positive lessons. If some of those lessons don't jibe with today's values then those particular books shouldn't be used for mass teaching. This is different than not teaching Tom Sawyer or Huck Finn because of the use of a certain word. One of the reasons those books are important is because they illustrate racial relations and interactions at a specific period in time.

In other words, I am not for censorship, but I am for making sure that the lessons we are teaching kids are positive ones.

I am completely confident you have felt this way your entire adult life right? 🙄🙄
