Carr looking to Transfer

Can someone provide a link where the coaches have been supposedly calling him out for his lack of motivation, or for being soft? Just curious as I apparently don't follow it as closely as you all do since I haven't seen or heard that.

Also, we're still only a year and a half into a coaching change. There will probably be a continuance of players heading out the door who weren't recruited by this staff, in addition to the typical yearly turnover.

VQ reported it frequently. Carr was put into 1 on 1 drills more than anyone. In fact, as a total call out, Butch put him up against George Bullock (kicker).

Thanks. I found a little bit on him, for others who had the same question.

CARR'S CLOCK TICKING

Sophomore defensive tackle Jason Carr missed last Saturday's scrimmage with a hand injury but has returned this week to practice with a cast on his right hand.

Tennessee head coach Butch Jones said regardless of playing hurt, the clock is ticking on Carr to show Jones and the defensive coaches that he can be a viable option at defensive tackle.

"He's playing really with one hand; his hand is all bandaged up, in a cast. So he will be available. He was full-go today, he was cleared. But again, you're taking one of your weapons away with your hands," Jones said. "But he will be able to play. He's one of those individuals right now, the clock is ticking for him. We need him to step up. And there's a possibility we may explore moving him to offense. So the sense of urgency has to really pick up for Jason."

If moved to the other side of the ball, which Jones said he and the coaches have been exploring for some time, Carr would line up at one of the tackle spots.

Jones said the move to offensive line for Carr isn't a done deal at this point, but they will make the move if it's a better fit for Carr and the team as a whole.

"He still has some practices before we make that decision, but first of all it's where every individual can help you and help the team win," Jones said. "So we'll make that assessment, we'll continue evaluating him as we go."

After that quote from Butch, and the fact that Carr is leaving because he was moved to O, tells me more than I need to know to wash my hands of him. He's more "I" than "we" when it comes to this team.

Edit to clarify- washing my hands of Carr, not Butch

We may need to get 4 DTs in the next class now for sure.

Let's not be so quick to forget this is the young man who rode a bus to Knoxville for an UOV on his own dime. He did so in order to help recruit. Stay classy.

If he doesn't fit the system, he doesn't fit the system. I would love for him to fight to make an impact, but I can't blame him for wanting to go play somewhere where he will have the opportunity to play the position he wants to play.

In the end, football is a game that should be fun for whoever plays it. If he only has a few more years to play on a legitimate team (be it JUCO/DII/Alabama/wherever), let him go where he has the chance to play.

I understand what you're saying, but he has an opportunity to play for Tennessee. All he had to do was light a fire under his rear end and get angry. He was told this time and again, and still never got it.

Then he best get his crap together and put on his big-boy panties and play like a defensive lineman. It's been on the record that they've had to tell him this before.

He was a Freshman last year they gave him no time to develop.

You dang right it's "I" it's his career and if he feels like it's a better move for him to another school that you can't knock that.

So he should fight to play on a 5 win a year program? Come on man the " You could play for Tennessee" only works when ranked teams don't spank you by 20+ consistently.
He tried and it wasn't for him. Playing angry is dumb too IMO. Play aggressive and smart. Playing angry leads to penalties, ejections, and coaching changes.
Coaches are not mad at him, he doesn't seem mad, why are you bitter towards him? This has nothing at all to do with you and will not affect you at all. He wasn't going to start, struggled to get into the 2 deep mix so even as a fan the only thing you miss is him on the sideline. A best of luck would be enough.

I never brag...and this definitely isn't the time...but I called this...he's a 3-4 DE...not a 4-3 DT or an offensive lineman...I hate Bama, but if he wants a transfer there,Butch should sign off...if that's not possible I think he goes JUCO and ends up there anyway.

FWIW, I'm with you on the 3-4 end thing. Memphis kids...

if this is the truth, Jason Carr will never play a meaningful down at Tennessee. This is unfortunate because I was excited that we had actually beaten Bama for a Memphis recruit. Wouldn't you know it? We finally beat Bama for a kid they over rated as well. Cant win for losing.....

Oh, believe me. I get it. Calling him overrated and saying we are going to wash our hands of him is a little over the top.

He will only be a sophomore this year, yet people are trashing him and saying he never developed. Maybe he doesn't play as physical as he should be with his body. You never know what's going on with these kids.

I just don't get the whole fan mentality of trashing a player who decides that the best opportunity for him is elsewhere. It's not like he is dogging the program or anything. Him staying and attempting to work harder and contribute is what we all want, but if the evidence is there that he isn't a good fit, what can you do?

If it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. Can't force the kid into wanting to give his all for TN.

Let's tip our hat to the young man for giving what he has given to the program. Wish him best of luck and move on.

I would question his loyalty to any team then. Butch and crew have standards and they are fully aware of how much time Carr has had to develop. If your heart isn't in it enough to work harder when your coaching staff says "you better step it up", then transferring isn't going to change anything. If he wants to transfer so he doesn't have to work that hard, so be it.

I agree....it's unfortunate on multiple levels. I was so excited for him.

No, Carr is soft. Butch has said it several times. He called him out for it during practices over the loud speaker. Has nothing to do with twitch. There's no way Saban wants him if he's too soft to play here.

Preach it like a mantra...he's soft he's soft he's soft...if that's how you deal with loss :good!: I choose to feel that he didn't fit and wish him great success at somewhere he does...he committed to us and was a positive part of Butch's first Vols Class...can't convince me otherwise.

Quit criticizing the kid. I hope he stays and blossoms but if he chooses to go elsewhere, I hope it's a good fit. You guys sit anonymously behind your computer and act like you could do better.

Not gonna hate on the kid, but this is really a place we couldn't afford to lose depth. Too bad he feels like he can't make a difference at OLine...

Good luck, Jason. Now let's get some kids in that want to give their all for Tennessee!!!
