Carr looking to Transfer

Quit criticizing the kid. I hope he stays and blossoms but if he chooses to go elsewhere, I hope it's a good fit. You guys sit anonymously behind your computer and act like you could do better.

I do know that if I was a 6'5 - 295 sophomore, and was currently on the Tennessee roster, it would take an act of god to make me leave the team. The only things I can think of that would make me leave are my eligibility expiring, career-ending injury, or death. Even if I thought I wasn't ever going to play, just being on the team with a chance to run through the T is all the motivation I need. I know that if Butch MFin' Jones told me to toughen up, I would ask him, "Where is the nearest brick wall I can run through for you coach, I will do anything to help this football team". So... yeah, I think I could've done better for the team in this situation. But that's just me...

Also, not hating on the guy and I do wish him the best as long as it isn't with one of our future opponents.

It's too bad for us that you have no talent. :ermm:

Way to respond

I mean it is the truth. If I was a 4 or 5-star prospect and UT offered me a scholarship, there would have been no question of where I was going. And like I said, the fact that I might not be good enough to start or even play wouldn't deter me at all. It would just make me work harder to get the guys who were starting better. But alas, my love for UT football is unnaturally high and (to some extent) unhealthy for my mental stability. lol but don't worry I'll be fine hahaha.

I would grant him his release. I wouldn't let him go to a SEC team that would be the only stipulation I would put on the kid. Maybe he gives his all and it's just not good enough. No reason he shouldn't be able to live out his dream somewhere else. Thanks for your services and best of luck.

Wasn't that Woody Quinn?

No it was definitely Jason Carr, Butch was apparently ALL over Carr during spring practice for being soft. He made it mandatory that he go first in the Circle of Life EVERY time. There was a thread about it I posted earlier in this thread. At first Butch said he was willing to make the change, but apparently he just couldn't find a position he could really contribute at is my best guess.

You may be right.

/end my snarky posts

I think Quinn faced the kicker(working title for my new movie) and J Carr was just made an example of each practice as the guy who started it off because "he was soft" or at least jokingly teased that way by Butch.

if this is the truth, Jason Carr will never play a meaningful down at Tennessee. This is unfortunate because I was excited that we had actually beaten Bama for a Memphis recruit. Wouldn't you know it? We finally beat Bama for a kid they over rated as well. Cant win for losing.....

Albert Means

Sometimes losing the recruit is a win.

I would normally agree with you...in this case I think Butch would score major recruiting points while doing the right thing.

Score points with who? Players who are not completely sure that Tennessee is right for them but sign here anyway because they know they can always leave with no consequences? No, you don't grant releases to players to transfer within the conference. Having said that, I hope Carr stays and gives it another year.

So he should fight to play on a 5 win a year program? Come on man the " You could play for Tennessee" only works when ranked teams don't spank you by 20+ consistently.
He tried and it wasn't for him. Playing angry is dumb too IMO. Play aggressive and smart. Playing angry leads to penalties, ejections, and coaching changes.
Coaches are not mad at him, he doesn't seem mad, why are you bitter towards him? This has nothing at all to do with you and will not affect you at all. He wasn't going to start, struggled to get into the 2 deep mix so even as a fan the only thing you miss is him on the sideline. A best of luck would be enough.

Defensive linemen have to play pissed off. There are Olinemen who want to basically kill you every play. Playing defense requires a little insanity, especially linebacker. Carr was moved to Oline because his mentality is too soft for the Dline.
You have to play with controlled anger. Look at Henderson for proof. He was full on insane on the field.

The coaches have been trying to light a fire under him for a while now. They seen that he wasn't a SEC grade D Lineman and wanted to try him on the O Line. He didn't want to move and in the end its his life. If he truly doesn't want to be an O Lineman then its best for him and the team that he moves on.

I hate to lose him but its his life. Can't hate on the kid.

Whatever your decision is, I hope it is the best for Tennessee and most importantly for you!

Good luck in your future endeavors!

I feel pretty confident saying that if he couldn't make an impact on our D-line, he sure as hell isn't going to play on Saban's.

You dang right it's "I" it's his career and if he feels like it's a better move for him to another school that you can't knock that.

So much for the whole......

With as much as this guy went through....he just wanted to get on the field however to help the team...work ethic and pride in team/family always matters in "Giving Your All For Tennessee" and being a "VFL"

I never brag...and this definitely isn't the time...but I called this...he's a 3-4 DE...not a 4-3 DT or an offensive lineman...I hate Bama, but if he wants a transfer there,Butch should sign off...if that's not possible I think he goes JUCO and ends up there anyway.

Grant the release to a non SEC school.
