Cases of West and Jurick, my take

Wow on the quoted part. I take it that 'Tanning Bed' is your original line.

If Donovan is disliked that much, I see no reason to be concerned with how well Pearl gets along with other teams' coaches.
Other than catching lightning in a bottle with the Rich Kids, what has Donovan ever done that should be held up as an ideal?

I'd love to see Bruce get 2 NCs and 1 Runner-Up in his first 11 seasons. It may have been lightning in a bottle, but it was still the first team to repeat since Duke.

Up until the last two seasons, he consistently had Florida finishing among the top teams in the SEC. A wise man once said that winning in conference play is a sign of a healthy program, or something to that effect.

If West transfers to another school, will he have to sit out a year? I ask because I don't know if this rule applies to someone who was not on the team. Also, does his one year of academic work count toward his eligibility? I feel bad for him, and hope he finds someplace where he is a good fit.

His 5 year clock started the minute he enrolled full time. As to sitting out a season, he certainly doesn't have to if he goes to a junior college for a year. He would likely receive a transfer waiver if the 'AA deemed he needed one.

Thanks for your answer hat.

if West sits out next years (09-10) how many years of eligibility will he have left? are you saying he has 4 to play 4 now?

Basilio is reporting today that West's mother told him today that Pearl & Co. promised Daniel a scholarship if he stayed on campus and made his grades. Basilio, Overrated, and Beano all essentially called Pearl a liar.

He now has 4 to play 4. I'm pretty sure he's going to go the junior college route for one season.

pearl needs to let these guys go to get this team ready, with cal at kentucky he needs some more high caliber recruits to keep up. Just saw where rivals have boosted kentucky up to the number 1 recruiting class now. We need to recruit or we might just get left behind.

Yeah, Melvin Goins is all world.

then he should never have promised this kid a spot. It's worng and pretty slimy

i would be willing to bet goins is better than west and can make an impact sooner than later. I mean it sucks for the kid but business is business and you cant tell me college sports is not big time business. I hate to hear it. he should have done his part in high school and we wouldnt be having this conversatin would we?

Not sure about that...

Am I the only one who notices that this staff's ability to evaluate talent is, at best, questionable?
I think it becoming more and more obvious. I also can't shake the feeling that we are seeing the beginning of the end of Pearl's career at Tennessee.

The thing most troubling is how utterly awful their recruiting at the point guard position has been to this point. Marques Johnson, Daniel West, Bobby Maze, Melvin Goins. Really? Also, I'm quite confident they were delusional enough to think Prince could play significant minutes there.

If the coaches could remotely evaluate point guards we wouldn't be having this conversation, would we?

The PG position was exactly what I had in mind. Even when Rivals likes the guys we get, they end up being thugs. (Ramar Smith and maybe Josh Selby too)

You shouldn't be.

That's part of my problem with this. Even aside from the obvious moral issues, to me West is younger and better than Goins. He (West) seemed like a team player who was actually not a complete idiot.

I get the unshakable feeling we have already reached the ceiling of where Pearl can take us.
