CBS to Announcers: "Stick To Sports"

If it's political 'cause some people hate their country, too bad. It's still the flag of the country and people should be free to fly it wherever.
You are free to fly it wherever. But somebody sees it flying somewhere and decides that to be a political statement that they disagree with, they are free to do so and you can't really control that.

First of all, an American flag with the blue stripe across it isn't the American flag. It's the Blue Lives Matter flag, and whether you agree with it or not that is a political statement. I don't think that the Blue Lives Matter flag, or the American flag, is a symbol of racism. The Blue Lives Matter is a reactionary display in response to a movement that they perceive to be anti-police.

Flying the flag can be a political statement, of course. And not just because of recent events. For example flag-waving that is done in anticipation of or during wartime doesn't have to be, but often is, a statement in support of the war, which is of course a political thing. American flags came out en masse before and during the Iraq War from people who supported the launching of that war - so yes, the waving of the flag in that context represented a particular political statement.

We used to have rules about flag desecration and respect of the flag - how, when, why it is flown ... Apparently when leftists were allowed to burn flags in the name of free speech that all went out the window, so the national flag has become a political rather than a patriotic symbol. In keeping with my old fashioned standards, I consider a stripe of any color on the flag as desecration. A blue streamer flown with the flag similar to the way the military does service streamers with a flag would possibly seem appropriate.

Separating them from their money is very appropriate if they insist on developing nukes. It's a very worthy strategy and nice negotiating chip. It was nuts to give up that chip w/o assurances that they wouldn't develop nukes
that may be true but it's often stated that Obama gave them our money

Had a couple over last Saturday from Venezuela. They fled the Chavez regime in 2007. The same year I left as an expat. Anyway, I assume they would be Biden supporters because I thought they were liberal, much younger than me. However, when I asked they said "Hell No". They went on to say that the Democrat speeches they hear today in America, remind them allot of speeches made by Chavez in 1999. Same type message. They said they couldn't believe then that the Venezuelans citizens fell for it. Unfortunately they did and look where it got them.

When Chavez took over, Venezuela was one of the safest countries in the world. Today, three of the top ten most dangerous cities in the world are in Venezuela. I lived in Venezuela for 6 years, it was beautiful. Now Chavez and his successor have destroyed it. What a shame what bad politics can do to a beautiful, peaceful country and it's people. Our conversation last Saturday really made me think  Just saying......
This election is literally a choice between good and evil

Not of the men themselves, but for the future of this country.

The growing support of socialism/communism in America needs to be nipped in the bud before we have real Venezuela type problems.

I have no problem with that but you're missing my point. This discussion started with a school deciding against allowing political symbols. If our flag is determined to be political by a group then it could be banned too. That's what I'm getting at

Obama gave them back THEIR money that had been seized by the US and UK

You don't think we were due some healthy reparations? Wonder how much of "THEIR" money came to them in the form of military and other aid. Do you think they paid the sticker price for their F-14s?

Isn't it interesting that the same people who object to the Stars and Stripes are often the same people who object to the Stars and Bars.

Seemed pretty up on the latest peace agreement today. On the other hand, Biden will be informed. Biden strikes me as quite the policy wonk. He is like a sponge when it comes to details.

Biden has a mental catalog of lumps and bumps?

Back in the olden days we had a "card catalog" in the library. I miss the olden days.

True, but it is easier to read an electronic book while going to sleep - especially the way they started binding paperbacks, and it took two hands to read what was bound too tight.

There's no doubt he's going to be a figurehead. If he wins, he will install a top shelf cabinet and allow them to do their jobs to the best of their abilities. That hasn't happened the past 3+ years

The fact that he chose Kamala Harris shows that what you've said above is not true. He chose her based on race/sex, not ability or qualifications

Big Ten to start playing football at the end of October.

Thank you Mr Trump

The Big Ten Conference will play football this fall, after the organization’s chancellors and presidents approved a reversal of their recent decision to postpone the season because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Wednesday's revival delivers a victory for President Donald Trump, who has demanded sports resume in an athletic conference that represents several swing states ahead of Election Day. The president has even intervened with calls to conference commissioner Kevin Warren. Conference presidents and chancellors voted unanimously to resume the football season starting the weekend of October 23-24.
