CFP Show

So you're saying that not being in the SEC is USC or Clemson's fault? The fact they HAVE to schedule lots of opponents in their conference.

You're essentially saying that SEC teams should get a boost because the SEC is just a better conference.

That's what the committee is in place to keep from happening...... conference bias.
Lol clueless. The committee is going to pick the 4 teams that seem best and will drive tv ratings

Non conference does matter in our (or most of SEC) case considering the quality of opponents on our schedule.
You're just saying: the SEC is the best conference and any team in the SEC that wins a lot is better than a team that wins a lot in another conference.

Isn't that EXACTLY what the committee is for? Isn't its job to filter out the different conference strengths?

Otherwise why not just say: the CFP consists of 2 SEC teams because they're the best conference.

Wanna talk about who TN scheduled for OOC opponents too? Outside of Pitt......uh......

To follow, OOC doesn’t matter to us or most of SEC schools. To Big12 and PAC12, it’s one of the reasons they always get talked down on. They need to schedule multiple perceived tougher OOC games to make up for weak league teams.

Look, I'm the one who has advocated the SEC and B1G and a few select outliers dump the NCAA for football and form a super-conference.

I'm not in favor of worrying about Cinci or TCU or virtually any team not named Clemson or maybe ND for a championship. That's not where we are and acting like we are is what you are doing.

As long as we're going to put up with the crap conferences being available for the playoffs, we have to have a committee to balance it out.

Should we? No. But here we are. Unlike you, I understand what the committee is for.

I understand the committee just fine. They have to balance 4 most deserving teams vs the 4 best teams. Some years it’s the best, others it’s a mix of deserving….. the committee changes frequently its members to keep things fresh. The committee is literally built to not be a robot and static group that makes the same selections based on same criteria year after year. That’s what sets it apart from the BCS era. So far this year, the committee values quality of wins most. The one exception is TCU with an undefeated record. They lose, they are toast. Right now it looks like the committee will make 3 spots for the 3 best teams and 1 for the “most deserving” and that’s TCU. They lose one game and we will get back into the “4 best teams” making the playoff. Committee is a beautiful thing.

I assume we can agree that "the 4 best" teams consistently will come from the SEC and B1G.... with Clemson or someone else sneaking in on occasion.

The system is as FUBARed as the BCS was, IMO, because the recruiting and talent of the SEC and B1G even with NIL and Jackson State or someone else getting a one off highly ranked kid..... the SEC and B1G are going to dominate.

That we might not get in because a TCU team that can't beat anyone in the top 10 goes undefeated IS absurd and just not good football. Still, the system is what it is and "deserving" is a good term.

As I see it, a team that does what it needs to do within it's little sphere of a Power 5 conference "deserves" to get in over a team in a strong conference that doesn't win the conference or play for the conference title even.

What else can a team in a lesser conference do to "deserve" a CFP place?

You were saying? Pac-12 is #2 and Big 12 #3. RealTimeRPI.com College Football/NCAAF - College Football Power Rankings and Analysis, A leading sports ratings and resources community on the Internet

Both conferences, like the Big 10, also have 9 conference games which is another loss. These conferences should one up the SEC and ACC and go 7 conference games. At the end of the year, you would see multiple undefeated or 1 loss teams. They would displace the teams at the top of Cole Cubelic's table.

I get that the SEC is the toughest schedule. But this committee, regardless of which conference is NOT going to put a one loss team in front of an unbeaten team. If 2,3,4 lose a game, assuming we continue to win, we will jump up. I don't look for that to happen until that loss happens. Might as well sit back enjoy the ride, and see how it plays out. Haven't been in this position in years, try to live in the moment.

Do you find tcu to have a better resume than Tennessee? Lsu?
Is tcu ranked ahead of Tennessee and lsu?
If tcu can be ranked ahead why couldn’t usc?
Because TCU has played 5 ranked teams and found a way to win them all. UsC doesnt compare

And Both would likely have an argument to get in over an 11-1 team who didn’t win their conference, which is the point. We definitely need usc to drop a game.
With that thinking why wouldn’t we need TCU to lose 2 games and Clemson to lose a game? Oh and don’t forget UNC.

Pretty simple. TCU is undefeated against the number 38 schedule in the country and already has more ranked wins than USC could accumulate, which gives TCU the #1 SOR, while USC has a loss against the number 65 schedule in the country.

The top 4 that is there now will more than likely not be the top 4 in the end. OSU and UM play each other. It probably works best for us if OSU wins that game. Very likely the loser drops out of the top 4. The winner still has to win the championship game.

TCU is a wildcard - they are more than likely going to have to play K-State or Oklahoma State in the championship game. Both of them were close wins AT HOME. It is hard to beat a team twice in the same year.

In the polls USC did not jump LSU and Clemson did not jump Bama. That still implies the committee believes the 3rd and 4th best SEC teams are better than those two.

Sure, but the conversation was based on IF usc somehow closes the season with 3 ranked wins and finishes as a 1 loss conference champion, not the current standings. In that scenario, I think usc would 100% be in the conversation to take one of the playoff spots.

If the committee truly believes TN is #5, they should jump to #4 with any loss from 3 of those top 4 teams. For the teams below them to jump TN, they would have to have a more impressive victory over a team the committee considers really good.

But more than anything TN needs to beat SC and Vandy impressively leaving no doubt they are no less than the second best team in the SEC>

Problem is that at least 1, maybe 2 of those teams will not be ranked at years end if they lose to USC. And if we don't get credit for KY because once upon a time they were ranked - USC should not either.
