CDS on the situation:

Dave Serrano ‏@DaveSerranoUT 1h
Sad to see friend Coach Mo go but with so many changes in CB it's hard to keep good people. Happy for him and family. Great opp for him.

Also happy for Gregg Wallis and sad to see him leave Rocky Top. Great opportunity for him to go show what he can do in FT position at GCU

Imo Mo leaving tells me one of two things.

He felt he wasn't the guy to get this thing turned around

Or

He felt DS wasn't going to get it done here.

Taking a job that was just vacated by a coach coming to the SEC is somewhat of a red flag IMO.

I was kinda worried about that. Doesn't matter now, I guess. We have to get the right guy.

Dang, Chicken Little. Why put a negative spin on it so quickly. You have no idea why Mo is leaving but yet you immediately jump to these conclusions?

Why not guess that, maybe he killed a guy and he has to get out of town before the body floats back to the top of the pond?

Is this a bad time to be down a person on the recruiting trail?

Just the impression I have. Taking a step down is never a good sign. Remember all the Dooley coaching losses??

Last few years he's done what exactly? Talent stinks around the program. Just sayin.

Serious question.

Is mo getting a pay raise, same, or pay cut?

My guess is a pay cut

I have no clue and I really don't care.

I have a question. How did you originally break this news as "good news", yet at the drop of a dime instantly start investigating the situation hoping like hell to draw negative findings. Why? Why is everything a conspiracy?

It doesn't matter why mo left but message boards last time I checked are for speculating. The good news IMO is that his replacement will be an upgrade.

If you recall I later stated that some might not see it as good news.

Why would anyone (well, any sane person) immediately jump to the conclusion that Mosiello is leaving because he knows that Serrano will never get this program turned around? Especially, when Mosiello has known Serrano for years and knows he has taken two different programs to the CWS.

Both men have strong personalities. If I had to speculate right now, it would be more likely that it was a personality conflict. Mo came here after being a Mgr in the professional ranks, maybe he had different ideas than Serrano.

I didn't make that jump. I posted IMO it was one of two things. IMO it's more likely to be that he didn't feel he was the man for this job for whatever reason.

Sorry I asked Bruin.:p

It's all good. If it comes out that mo has significant family ties in the area or got a significant bump in pay my speculation is wrong. Until then the fact he took a lesser job uprooting his family with a kid in high school seems like a red flag to me.

Why do you think it's a lesser job, because he's going from Recruiting Co. to Hitting Coach?

That and he is leaving premier baseball league in the country. Yes tcu is a very good baseball school but IMO tenn is a better job.

I would be very interested to hear the difference in pay. If he got a pay increase that slams my opinion.

I don't know about that, I mean Schlossnagle has that program rolling and he's not going anywhere, so it's stable.

I thought CDS' choice of words was interesting, I don't think he's gonna get much of a paycut, may get a raise. Baseball is changing, lot more money these days. We'll see.

It's hard to find anything other than base salary on schlossangle but his base salary is 225k compared to DS being 275k. Now I know DS total package is 450k which I am assuming is better than what TCU can pay.

Stability is worth a lot. So is in state talent. TCU has 23 kids from the state of Texas on the roster. For some perspective, we have 12 kids from the state of Tennessee on ours.

They are already going to regionals, super regionals every year. That's worth something too.

On a different subject, slightly...everyone talks about Coach Mo with high regard. I have no doubt that's probably true and I'm sure he's doing what's best for his family.

He's leaving his friend since childhood, he's leaving the kids he recruited here, after two years, before the job he was so excited about having is even remotely close to being finished. It's hard on the face of it, to have much respect for that. I don't know the story, so I'm just gonna wish he and his family the best, say thanks for the contributions he made and move on. Next man up!

Fair enough. Your last stament is exactly why I posted good news was coming!

Bruin, what makes you think any good coach would come here when it is so obvious that Serrano is not going to be able to turn this around......:D

Not only that...but if Mo had doubts about the job getting done here, isn't that an indictment on him? Shouldn't he be confident in what he brings to the table? I doubt he's selling out his childhood buddy. TCU has a good program, rich recruiting grounds, and for one to think they don't have money to pay is crazy. I'm just one that likes to actually have a reason to be suspicious. I take it you're the same way.

Serrano has ran programs before, is a former NATIONAL COACH OF THE YEAR. It baffles me how some question his every move with such scepticism, and how everything that happens is his fault. SMDH....
