I'm not blown away by Strong's record, but I wasn't with Sumlin, either. I wanted Sumlin over Dooley when both were being mentioned after Cutcliffe withdrew his name (didn't want Cutcliffe either) the last time around.

Strong would be a good, maybe not a great, hire, IMHO. If we don't have to drop the motherload to get him and if he got the $$$ to hire a big time staff, I think he'd make a believer out of folks by Signing Day.

Besides recruit FL well what has Fisher done. IMO it's as if Strong has done more with less and Fisher the opposite.

Patterson I agree he should be #1, but I don't think he leaves.

FYI it's been rumored that the Gruden money is a Gruden only deal and we will have approximately 3million for "other" coaches.

Thank God fans don't hire coaches. What I mean by that is I like Strong, but I'm glad I don't make that decision.

Now that is a kick in the pants. I wonder how much they would throw Patterson's way. If Hart is smart enough to make the call.

All of them are a huge gamble. All of them.
I've said all along you are almost better off focusing energy on a great recruiting staff and good OC/DC combo than worrying about the head coach.

Look at Malzhan and Cam. It's all about the recruiting and teaching the players.

I don't blame boosters one bit either. They are tired of losing. Much like stocks, they are not going to sink their money into a bad investment or one they don't like.

I imagine boosters would pony for certain coaches but I think we vastly oversimplify how broke we are right now.

If they were willing to throw the bank at Gruden I dont see why they wouldnt throw it at another SUITABLE candidate. For the kind of money that was rumored to be thrown at Gruden I believe that same kind of money could hire a coach away from a school.

Really? I mean look what we got the past 2 times around. Most wanted Kelly or Patterson...instead we got Kiffin. Most wanted Patterson, again...or at least Sumlin. We got Dooley.

Your down 2 strikes in the count. Not looking good at this point.

Actually, I think, if the rumors had any truth to them ($$$ for Gruden or nothing), then it's a smart one. That puts Hart between a rock and a hard place. Meaning he can see that he doesn't have the money to hire even a good coach without them, so he better find a way to get Gruden back to the table.

Skeeter says all he is hearing now is Strong. He was 100% right about the Gruden situation. Makes me think he would be the one to listen to. Hubbs was asked if Hart had interviewed anyone today and He said he "thinks" Strong was. It was not done locally though.

Right now I don't think there are any coaches available to turn this thing around right now. Unless we steal someone from somewhere. Money talks. But it's hard to see certain coaches leaving to come here. But at least try to throw big money at someone besides gruden if he's really not coming. But not strong.

I'm just saying there are few slam dunk hires in sports and I would imagine to even hire any coach at 3million boosters will still have to be involved. They'd have to really be interested in a candidate to toss around the dollars mentioned for Gruden. They were going to pay the man more than SABAN!!!
