Charlie Strong

All for Charlie Strong. Him having Louisville where they are now is absolutely incredible. I don't think people realize exactly how bad they were the past few years before his arrival.

So many people keep posting this nonsense that Strong has recruited well. Please back that up with some actual facts.

His recruiting classes have been ranked by Scout as:

#64, #44, #33, #42, and now his BCS bowl season is leading to the currently #68 recruiting class for next year.

Yes he's shown himself to be a good coach but my goodness please stop with the "recruited well" BS.
He has only been the coach three years but you have five years listed.

I love when people compare recruiting at Louisville to recruiting at Tennessee. You can't ignore what he did on the recruiting trail at UF. And I'm pretty sure he'd have similar success recruiting to UT. This man is KNOWN to have solid pipelines directly to Miami Florida. I'm talking Northwest, etc....programs where he could year in and year out get players.

Now Strong isn't the tops on my list. But he is on my list and I think he could do a good job.

Do you know what back-to-back commitments from two four-star players gets you?

A boost into the ESPN Recruiting Nation Top 25.
That is last year's class. All you need to know about Louisville's presence in south florida is Clint Hurtt.

There are people on this forum who say Petrino has never won anything, yet he had a better record at Louisville than Strong. I understand Petrino has baggage, but I would rather take a gamble on a proven winner than gamble on Strong. I especially don't like trying to get Strong this early in the search.

Strong should not be our second choice IMHO. I don't think Petrino should be our 2nd choice either, but I would take him over Strong.

Flame away, but I just don't understand why Strong is so highly thought of. He is having a good season in a terrible conference. The two years before that, he was 7-6. Just look at his schedule this year. There is hardly a decent opponent on his schedule and he lost to Syracuse and UConn.

Former TN running back Jabari Davis made a great point just a moment ago about Coach Strong. He said Coach Dooley tried hard to stay away from recruits that may be borderline character issues. Davis understood what Dooley was trying to do but also admitted that to find top talent sometimes you have to go into the hood (his words not mine) and work with that talent. Davis said, the bottom line is that you have to get some young men that have questionable track records but have the ability to be a father figure to them and change them as a person and a player.

He knows Charlie Strong very well and said Strong can go into any young man’s home and make that mother or father feel good about sending their son to UT. And he can take that young man that doesn't have the support at home and has personal/character issues and work it out of them and turn them into great young men on and off the field. Jabari works with hundreds of underprivileged kids here in Atlanta, the man wouldn't say that if it wasn't a fact.

Please cite the two train wrecks he left behind when talking about Petrino's greatness.

No need for you to be flamed my man. You actually have some substance to your argument, rather than just throwing out jibberish BS like some choose to do. Don't agree with you though.

I have yet to see a list of guys Strong recruited to Florida. I have researched a bit and cannot find anyone. Im sure he recruited some guys but he has never been the recruiting coordinator. Dont you make your best recruiters RC?

I know Zook was the top recruiter when he was there. Who was urban's super recruiter?

Since Gruden is gone I am officially on the Strong train. I think he would be a great hire, and save our recruiting class. I think he has the most upside.

But you still cant give reasons why he would be "so much better" than anybody else. He around .500 in the BIG EAST!!! Do you actually think he can step in here and over the next 3 years be any better what we just went through? Please, talk me into being a charlie strong supporter..... PLEASE!!!!

I brought up Petrino to put some of this in context. I am not saying he should be our next coach. Yes he left AR in the gutter. He screwed over the Falcons, but they sucked anyway and was in the middle of the Vick fiasco. I am not making excuses for Petrino, I am just saying he did more at Louisville than Strong has. He won a lot of games at AR. There is no denying Petrino is a good coach.

The jury is still out on Strong, and he might be a good coach at TN, I still say he is a pretty big gamble and I will not be excited about him. If he becomes our coach, I will support him and hope he proves me wrong. I just don't understand how he is our second choice.

Everyone else turns us down, he would be a fine candidate, I just think we need to be swinging for fences right now, and then go to our plan B type coaches.

Charlie Strong's recruiting record at Louisville would indicate that he can't recruit. At least not when he's selling anything other than Florida.

He has sucked it up recruiting at L'ville. He has not improved their recruiting ONE bit. In fact his 2013 class is currently #68 overall, 20 spots below last year's class. This while he has a BCS bowl season to hep out his efforts.

Stop it everyone with the claims that he is a great recruiter. He did well under someone else's leadership when he was selling a championship team, but when he is in charge he has not shown anything as a recruiter.

couple things of note here: 1) Charlie is selling Louisville to recruits, not Florida, Notre Dame or USC, so there is somewhat of a limit to what he can recruit to at least until he is "more" proven, 2) His recruiting classes (per rivals) have been #48, #29 and #42. The average recruiting class in the same span before he took over was #57.3. That IS a bump in recruiting. 3) Charlie (not including the remainder of this season) has averaged over 7 wins a year at Louisville, before he got there they were averaging barely over 4 wins a season for the prior 3 years. Yes his current UNSIGNED 2013 class (how many months until signing day?) is #71, I will give you that. If you average the last two years, the span of time that Franklin was at Vandy, Charlie has recruited about the same (2013 doesn't count because the classes aren't finalized yet) and has actually won a bowl game and beaten a ranked team. Unlike Franklin.

To me he is a better coach than many on our list.

if .608 is around .500, you are right.

For some reason it doesn't track his individual recruits persued/landed beyond 2006. But you asked for a list, I've given you one. No 2* diamond in the rough guys. Straight 4-5* dudes. Now that I did that favor for you, would you do one for me? Explain to me how recruiting to Louisville is even remotely as easy as recruiting to UF.

Im coming around on Strong. I think he may be able to coach the players we have and get better results than other mentioned coaches. I say this because he has a decent defense with far less talent in Looey. His offense is a weak spot, but he seems to want to run a balanced pro style offense, which I favor. So, I'd be fine with him.

Speaking of Zook, Hyams interviewed him on the radio earlier and asked him where he thought Tennessee ranked as a job and program. Zook said there's no doubt in his mind it's a top 10 job in the country. I was shocked.

As a Gator fan, I really don't want you to get him. I think he recruits way better than you are giving credit.
