Charlie Strong

As a Gator fan, I really don't want you to get him. I think he recruits way better than you are giving credit.

Ahh Lawgator ive read your posts for a long time. Never thought id engage in any sort of discussion with a reptile but id like your opinion on something ive asked a few vol fans on here.

In your opinion do you think UT will be an 11-1 10-2 type of team with Strong or do you think they will be an 8-4 or 9-3 type of team?

Him and Fedora are my favorites out of the realistic hires left.

I love when people compare recruiting at Louisville to recruiting at Tennessee. You can't ignore what he did on the recruiting trail at UF. And I'm pretty sure he'd have similar success recruiting to UT. This man is KNOWN to have solid pipelines directly to Miami Florida. I'm talking Northwest, etc....programs where he could year in and year out get players.

Now Strong isn't the tops on my list. But he is on my list and I think he could do a good job.

No need trying to explain that here. He isn't undefeated and #1 in the country so he isn't worth our time.

For some reason it doesn't track his individual recruits persued/landed beyond 2006. But you asked for a list, I've given you one. No 2* diamond in the rough guys. Straight 4-5* dudes. Now that I did that favor for you, would you do one for me? Explain to me how recruiting to Louisville is even remotely as easy as recruiting to UF.
Nice 2007 class, good 08 and 09 class. Only 2 guys in 2007. Solid overall. Stan Drayton was the super recruiter until 2007. I dont know who was their closer the last two years it is unclear; might have been strong.

Recruiting to Louisville is equivalent to recruiting to Kentucky itself wouldnt you agree? KY's current class in 12 spots higher than Lville; KY ranks last in the SEC. In 2010 they both finished about #50. In the last two years KY #60, and louisville 20+ spots higher. All the 4*s have been Hurtt Miami guys except for the one linebacker out of Charlotte.

Hiring Strong is a terrible risk that doesnt need to be taken. Hart can mitigate risk by hiring other guys that would be safer bets. I dont see where Strong has super upside either; he has no loyalty to TN other than the money, so it is not like you are taking the risk on a TN guy.

I'd rather have a daily barbed wire enema than see us hire Strong, Fisher, Fedora, Gundy, Golden, Briles, Dykes, Petrino, Davis.

I agree with you on Patterson but I don't even think we can get him! I honestly don't think many top coaches would want to and it pisses me off!

We may not, but at least make the effort and not a half ass one either. There are more than a few coaches out there that have a longer and better looking resume than Strong. If one says no, then move on to the next, but you can say in the end that I tried to get one of the better coaches in the country. If in the end we end up with Strong, then so be it.

Strong may turn out to be one of the better coaches in college, but at this point and time he isn't. There just isn't enough of a sample size there to judge which way his HC career goes and this hire is one that we have to get right if we expect to climb out of this hole we're in anytime in the near future.

I would kind of rephrase it as saying that I think of realistic candidates, he gives you best shot at 10 win plus seasons. He brought UF's defense to a completely new level, and quickly.

The reason you are going to have a difficult time getting there is that, frankly, you don't have the talent base that the other top notch teams do. This, also frankly, is why I worry if you get him. He can get you there.

I have yet to see a list of guys Strong recruited to Florida. I have researched a bit and cannot find anyone. Im sure he recruited some guys but he has never been the recruiting coordinator. Dont you make your best recruiters RC?

I know Zook was the top recruiter when he was there. Who was urban's super recruiter?

Recruiting coordinators organize everything recruiting wise. You don't make your best recruiter the RC.

You know, I got caught up in the Gruden mania myself. While all that was going on I was kinda turning my nose up at guys like Fadora and Strong. But after looking at their backgrounds these guys have done it the right way and I think are primed and ready for a big time chance. People keep bringing up Sumlin. I'd like to bring up how Sumlin's #6 ranked Houston team with a Heistman candidate QB got totally sh!t stomped by Fadora in the C-USA champ game 2 years ago 49-28. Fadora stepped into a pretty tough situation at UNC and did well IMO. He'd need to get a good DC though.

100% agree with everything you posted, although I have liked Strong for a while. Just researched Fedora today, and came away super impressed. I would love either one.

FWIW Strong beat Fedora head to head. I don't think that is a big deal, but figured I would mention it. Fedora or Strong would be great IMO.

I would ACCEPT either one. There are still a couple of guys I would put above them but I'm not sure if we could get them.

who do you think the list of realistic candidates would be? I personally dont think strong will come here. I think Lousiville would match any offer we would reasonably make. Maybe I am way off here though.

I guess if your happy that your coach went .608 in a shameful conference then I guess you would be happy with the same result in the SEC?

Interesting to point that out. UT has only gone .680% all time. And it isn't like the SEC has been the premier conference for that whole time, either. I know most people don't want to admit that, but the SEC's dominance is a relatively new (20 years) development.

Do you not remember the past five years? 3 losing seasons in 5 years? 2 bowl games. 2 bowl losses.

Strong has at least beaten ranked teams, been to a bowl game every year and actually WON a bowl game.

1. Knows the SEC
2. Will not let players dictate and will have their respect.
3. Will be the next Kevin Sumlin and we will be sitting here thinking damn, we could of had this guy.
4. Knows the value of getting hands dirty and outworking on the recruiting trail.

Listen, I would love to have Jon Gruden but it doesn't look like that is going to happen. Next best candidate in my opinion is Coach Strong.

100% for this hire, especially since he will have the resources to hire an all star staff.
