Charlie Strong

If I'm not mistaken I think I remember someone saying that Louisville had better players than us??? I didn't agree but how do you guys feel about that?? How has strongs recruiting classes at Lville been?

You have to take in account the school and conference but as I stated above his classes were ranked:

2010 - 2nd in Big East
2011 - 1st in Big East
2012 - 2nd in Big East

Sounds good. You think he would do well against saban richt spurrier ect.

Strong's 2011 class had a star average of 3.15 per Rivals.

Tennessee's current star average 3.24 which of course is not good for UT. Strong would crush it in the SEC IMO.

We get it. You hate Strong, but sorry no matter what you are not changing my opinion. If he is hired get behind him and hope for the best.

I don't hate him. He is simply not anywhere close to the top of the coaching scale for which the University strives to dwell. I see too much risk for now. He may be an elite coach one day. Tennessee needs a proven HC.

Who is your guy that we can get?

Nice 2007 class, good 08 and 09 class. Only 2 guys in 2007. Solid overall. Stan Drayton was the super recruiter until 2007. I dont know who was their closer the last two years it is unclear; might have been strong.

Recruiting to Louisville is equivalent to recruiting to Kentucky itself wouldnt you agree
? KY's current class in 12 spots higher than Lville; KY ranks last in the SEC. In 2010 they both finished about #50. In the last two years KY #60, and louisville 20+ spots higher. All the 4*s have been Hurtt Miami guys except for the one linebacker out of Charlotte.

Hiring Strong is a terrible risk that doesnt need to be taken. Hart can mitigate risk by hiring other guys that would be safer bets. I dont see where Strong has super upside either; he has no loyalty to TN other than the money, so it is not like you are taking the risk on a TN guy.

No. Not at all.

A HUGE selling point for programs like Kentucky IS the SEC. The ability to play in the best conference in the nation, against the best players in the nation, with incredible tv coverage is a HUGE selling point at ANY SEC school.

I would love to get an elite coach at Tennessee, but our options are not giving us too many choices.

My list has been

Gruden
Stoops
Tressell
Grundy
Mora, Jr.
Peterson
Patterson
Fedora

I don't have "one" that I am centered on, but several I don't think will unify a splintered fan base and also supervise an Elite program.

The guy took over a dumpster fire left by Steve Kragthorpe. He has improved the talent base and his teams have gotten better every year. Is he a home run hire? No. However given who else is out there, it's probably the best we're going to do.

I'm not for strong but I'm giving him a chance to win me over. But what's up with the gruden thread?!? All they're doing is shootin the $hit in there haha

I would rate all those coaches above Strong but Fedora. The problem is I don't see us getting one of them.

There are twenty other coaches who have beaten ranked teams, been to a bowl game every year and actually WON a bowl game.

I didn't say he was the only one. He isn't, obviously.

But, for the things that our athletic department is looking for (SEC experience), how many fit that list?

By the way Charlie has won a bowl game, I believe his record is 1-2 in bowl games, one of those losses was as interim coach against Miami when he was at UF.

How many coaches, of those 20, have SEC experience, and are obtainable (not Saban, Stoops, Miles, Gundy, Patterson, Peterson b/c they aren't leaving)?

Gruden-not coming
Stoops-not coming
Tressel-untouchable
Gundy-maybe, would take him over Strong.
Mora JR.-no thanks
Petersen- not coming
Patterson- would take in a heartbeat
Fedora-close, but would take Strong.

I am starting to hate the Gruden guys. While I would love to have him here the Gruden-Aid drinkers were rude to anyone who questioned the rumors. They are nothing but sheep. They can GTFO!

I understand...it has been a rather strong drink, but such is a RockStar name. Well, time for UCLA-Stanford...I want to watch MOra Jr.

Gruden, Stoops, Gundy, and Peterson aren't coming. No need to bring them in the discussion.

Tressell is a walking risk. Fedora is as much risk as Strong IMO. Patterson and Mora are less of a risk than Strong no doubt. I don't thin Patterson will come here. I don't think he would fit here honestly. He would have to kiss babies and shake hands here. Not sure he would want to do all that. Mora Jr doesn't have a long track record either. Also has the same personality as Dooley.

I like Mora, Patterson, Fedora, but just pointing out they are a risk as well.

You wouldn't take mora jr?

I don't know. He's done a good job this year, just something rubs me the wrong way. Seems a little prickish. He was a disaster in Seattle. Did a solid job in Atlanta. Just remember it's not like he took over a FCS program. There was a lot of talent at UCLA they just needed someone who was a decent coach. Neuheisel was a fraud.
