Charlie Strong

Give him time and it'll be more that 7-8 games. I think he can bring us back to the top.

I think most would give him time, hell we gave Dooley 3 years and he would be worth at least that much. At least he would come here with a winning record, but please exhaust the list of better coaches first. That's not asking much and I think that the rational fans would at least be content with the fact that Hart tried.

I'm not 100% sure why and by all means throw tomatoes but overall I'm almost in the camp that thinks Strong would be better fit for us than Gruden. Especially if the control and demands stuff is true about Gruden and Lemonte.

For the millionth time, Strong was THE reason Bridgewater committed to Louisville period. I read an ESPN article a few weeks back, that recalled his recruitment process and how his sick mom wanted him to get away so he wouldn't be so consumed with her illness and such. She mentioned in the article about promises Coach Strong made to Teddy and how she entrusted him to take good care of her son, etc.

So, just because there were assistants leading the effort, it doesn't mean the HC wasn't heavily involved. In fact, you don't seem to know much about recruiting, if you honestly believe Strong had no bearing in his decision. HC's are usually "The Closers."

I couldn't seem to dig up the article, but here is one where Bridgewater states he believed Strong when he told him he'd be there all 4yrs. If Strong wasn't heavily involved in his recruitment, then why is Bridgewater concerned with a promise made about staying? Hhhhmm?

Teddy Bridgewater Isn
Your article is from barely a month ago and has nothing to do with recruiting. Of course Strong is not going to dissuade a guy. You can say Strong must have "closed" em all. All I am saying is they take a huge # of Miami kids, because of Clint Hurtt. Clint Hurtt has taken multiple interest free loans from Shapiro, and violated ncaa rules by carting kids over there and out on the town with shapiro.

There is no telling what else Hurtt has done. There is no telling from Strong's record whether he can recruit at TN. Strong is a huge risk that does not need to be taken. If he could land a top 25 class and win another 10 games next year he is in the conversation. Until then it is irrelevant what he does.

His recruiting class isn't ranked high because everyone and their mother has known all yr that he had a serious shot to be elsewhere. It's also Louisville a place that has never had anyone recruit well too. If he stays then that class will get better with kids that are playing wait and see. If he comes to Tn our class will sky rocket with the trinity crew if quick, hatcher and white. Then buck has already basically said he knows if 5-6 stud recruits that would jump on board with strong at a school like tn.

People here only see what he did at Florida and think, " well this sum bit^h can really coach up a defense." What they dont see is that he defense has gone DOWN HILL each of his 3 years while his talent has gone up, and the conference opponents have gone down. A 10-2 record in the Big East doesnt mean he will be our savior. People here get pissed when our current recruiting class is ranked 12th in the SEC, while his is ranked 7th out of 8 teams in the Big East. I have nothing personal against Strong, he is a good PR guy and would big stability to the program, but the things he would big are not what this program need, and that is someone who will lead up back up the ladder in the SEC.

lots of ifs, buts, and bucks in there, and that is the point.... there are a dozen other safer hires with more upside.

Probably mentioned here last night, but Strong to UT is looking more and more likely. Fedora would be option 2 if Strong falls through in all likelihood. All of this from Skeeter.

Chris treece show had former vol yesterday they were all big on strong said he could recruit some "dogs" here which they said we're needing!

I really hope we can get Strong. He's a defensive minded coach who has transformed a train wreck in Louisville into a 10 win team. He does more with less than just about anyone. He has recruited fairly well even though he has been at louisville, and with the reputation and resources available to him at UT I think he could become an elite recruiter (and I love that he has such strong ties in the recruiting nirvana that is Florida). I admit that I would like to see him duplicate his success for another year but the bottom line is we don't have a year to wait. I think he is the best up-and-coming head coach out there and if we dont grab him now we'll end up regretting it, ala Brian Kelly. Here's to me hoping that Charlie Strong is the next head coach at my school.

Right now is the wrong time to get Strong. No matter who we get, whether it's Strong or Gruden or anybody else, with our schedule and 3rd new defense in 3 years, we're going to have a tough time winning more than 5 games next season. I fear that Strong would be on the hot seat almost immediately and it would just unravel from there. We might as well just make a bonfire with $10M and torch it.

If we do hire Strong there better be almost zero buyout or some sort of performance metrics that he has to hit. We seriously can't afford to go in the hole any deeper.

Any coach is going to have a tough time next year, whether it's Strong or Fedora or Jim Bob Cooter. We have to be patient as fans. It may suck installing a new defense (I believe Strong would be more likely to install the 4-3 rather than the 3-3-5 in his first year) but any scheme change takes time. I'd even be fine with the 4-2-5 Fedora would likely bring.

Strong will not unite fan base....may actually put an even bigger rift...I will not support the hire....me alone with my money will not cause a ripple but multiply that by thousands then it will get noticed.....

Who out of the realistic candidates do you suggest over Strong?

Dang wake up -- just an average recruiter

Lets face it we are going to get one step up from Dooley with Strong or any of these Hart has on his list.
We have been told money is not going to be an issue but we are going to get another budget hire. Keep listening to Hart. He's calling the sheep. It's why he never declared the Gruden thread was a scam. Set all the sheep up so after the melt down you'll be ready for anybody. Beware folks.

Probably one of the people who thinks anyone that isn't Gruden sucks.

Actually no....people keep saying that he is going to a BCS bowl and so forth so on....ONLY reason is bc the Big East has an auto berth....his opponents records this year is something like 57-82 with only 4teams having a winning record....2 MAC schools are ranked higher...he was a hek of a DC but so far as head coach he hasn't impressed me....there are other more qualified guys to go after....Patterson, Fisher(who is a stronger conf, ok the ACC, but it's still stronger) and Butch Davis....not to mention Petrino(on coaching ability alone, what happens in his bedroom is his business) and Tressel.

I wanted Gruden, but I know there are other qualified coaches out there.....personally I want Shaw from Stanford....his team plays like a SEC team....smash mouth defense and run it down your throat offense....

If we even call Shaw, all we will do is get him a pay raise at Stanford.

I am happy if we get Patterson or Peterson, would love either coach. My point was though for the people who are anti-Strong, why are you so against him

Thanks for all the opinions

I like Patterson best but I believe there is a reason his name isn't coming up. I'll be disappointed too if Mullins goes to CO especially if we make no play at all. After those 2 of the guys I see as realistic candidates I think Strong is the best fit/bet. I think with Strong we should still make a play to get Tee Martin. Hell I'd even like to see a play for getting Chavis. I think you could surround a guy like Strong with assistants with UT ties and get the fan base reignited.

that's part of our quandary. There just aren't any "realistic" guys out there that I would consider to be even B- hires *at best*.

What worries me the most is that we settle for one of these Golden/Strong/Fisher types, pay them a bunch of money, the team continues to struggle, fan apathy reaches unprecedented levels, even more empty seats, and we go through all this shat again in 3 years.

I'm not saying Golden/Strong/Fisher types are bad coaches - in the right environment I could see all of those guys succeeding. Our situation is pretty dire and we just can't afford to waste any more time going with guys that aren't slam dunks.

It looked bleak for Muschamp and FL too after last season and after their Weiss debacle. They look pretty good right now.
You just have to find a good coach and win. Doesn't matter who wins or how goofy they look doing it that is the only thing that matters.
