Charlie Strong

Why not?

To not support someone from day one is simple prejudice, and I am not speaking about race. To not support the new hire (whoever it is – regardless of reason) without giving him the opportunity to prove himself is to pass unfavorable judgment without merit – the definition of prejudice.

A difference of opinion based on variously interpretable results is one thing. In such context I can understand the aforementioned “rift”. Just like what we have been through with DD (post hire).

This fan base needs to come together to support whomever is hired until they have been given the opportunity to prove themselves.

Bet you’d be back on board if we are playing for a championship in 3 years which begs the question, what defines a “fair weather” fan?

And people wonder why our fan base is divided. Well, I certainly am divided from this way of thinking.

Go Vols!!

Simply put....it's my prerogative to not have accept who they hire....I have stated previously why I would not support his hire, with his opponents records and the league he coaches in....I am anything but a fair weather fan....a fair weather fan would b apathetic to the hire....I am engrossed in the hire and feel like it would be a mediocre hire to lead our team to more mediocrity....I will not accept that....you may and that's your right....

With all these posts about Strong (possibly) becoming our next HC, I now understand what all the Gruden fanatics were going through.

The funny thing is that thread is still going on. They still think it is all part of a huge conspiracy. Lulz@that.

I have wanted Strong since the start. I knew Gruden was a LONG shot at best. I really do not get all of the Strong hate that we have on here. I know his opponents stink, but the guy is beating who is on his schedule, period. He is a proven recruiter, and a stud defensive minded coach, all things we need.

His recruiting back ground in Florida alone will pay dividends immediately.

Agree 100%. I was on the Gruden bandwagon but Stoops and Strong were my next choices. Strong is a defensive minded guy and his name would get us top notch recruits in Fl and GA. He is very well respected and loved by his players and recruits. Skeeter also said the recruits basically light up when they talk about him. Being at Louisville he just couldnt get 4-5* kids regularly plus playing in a bad conference hindered him as well. He will have the resources to hire an allstar staff and start landing those elite recruits. People that are against Strong just dont understand how it all works but will love Strong I guarantee it. Like Skeeter said Bell, Green andis North are just looking for reasons to be Vols and hiring Strong would get us those type players. Plus next season Hurt, Kelly JR, Berry Twins and others will more than be in play with Strong being here and Dooley gone. Not to also mention Ramsey, Hatcher, Adams T.Johnson, Kamara, Henry, Turman and others will all of a sudden get out of the no chance in Hell to back in play, plus dont forget Quick who has Louisville high on his list thanks to Strong. Hart needs to hire Strong now and get some of these midterm enrollee's on board and get his staff together. Top 5-10 class is very probably with the hiring of Strong. Get it done Hart!!

I cant think of any reason you would take Strong over Shaw unless you do not want to put the money out there to Shaw.

More success on the field.
More success recruiting nationally.
More success in just talking to the media.

If the University of Tennessee wants to settle and not try to get the best, why should we support them? A head football coach is the most important part of a successful football team; you cant skimp on hiring him!

I'm so tired of hearing names like Shaw or Petersen. Those aren't practical. When I hear someone say these names I instantly discard anything they say. Let's be realistic and not live in a fantasy world. And no I'm not Bob Lamonte.

Florida hired Urban from Utah, and then Muschamp as DC at Texas.

A & M hired Sumlin from Houston.

Georgia hired Richt from Fl. St. as OC I believe.

LSU hired Miles from OK St., and hired Saban from Mich St.

But none of those guys have had any success at all. If we don't get Gruden or Stoops we are doomed.

I think people are just nervous because we've been down and had so much bad luck in the past 5 years.

People are scared because of Dooley. Strong is no Derek Dooley. I'd say 90% of Strong haters haven't seen him coach a game. Just saying no because they don't know anything about him.

Agreed.

It takes a special "talent" to be as bad as Dooley.

Hubbs is on the record saying Strong would take the job if offered and from hearing his response to the rumors he did nothing but add credablity to that.

If he is indeed first on the list when do we expect to get this done??

Wednesday would be my guess

you mean like he just did at louisville? You see the crap he inherited? You can argue conference all you want but he came in and won, and you can't cite a vast talent gap.

The SEC is a totally different monster than the Big East pal.
