Charlie Strong

I am a big supporter of Strong as a HC but with a good OC. He will definitely bring a boost to recruiting as you said, but we need a better OC if Strong is the choice. I do like Strong a lot though. Thanks for your response

I agree. Let Strong handle the defense and hire a good OC to go along with Jay Graham. Would love to keep Hinshaw and add Tee. Hinshaw as QB Coach and Tee as WR Coach would be great. Maybe keep Pittman as OL Coach and hire a pro style OC than coach's TE's so we can have Tee and Hinshaw. Would have a great recruiting Offensive staff then get a good DC and staff. Strong is a great recruiter with Strong ties to FL and GA and Skeeter mentionrd Strong would reak Havoc on Franklin in recruiting TN. I know alot of people dont agree and have Coach's they prefer better but Strong would have the funds to put together a great staff and ability to recruit at an elite level and win imo.

So, Derek Dooley recruited the 7th ranked class in 2008 with Louisiana Tech then what happened when he recruited to Tennessee? I'm pretty sure his classes got better.....

recruiting the 29th and 42nd classes in the country to Louisville is far from average. This years class on the surface appears to be very average but his performance Thursday night looked very lackluster half way thru as well and we know he finished Stong.

Then you would agree with what Franklin is doing at Vandy is A++ in accomplisment. yet he's not even on Hart's list. Cant wait to see Hart's hire.

If it's strong, I am out. Cannot sit around for another 3 years and continue to watch. If we want to be this then let's join the big east.

Bye..You would miss on great recruiting and the resurgence of UT football. Sux for you that you will miss it just by not giving a guy a chance.

Does nobody understand how hard it is to recruit to louisville? They are a bball school with a tiny stadium, fair-weather fans who show up late and leave early at games. The city is dirty and there is not much to do as compared to other places. They just recently got there conference situation figured out which was also hurting recruiting. He would do great recruiting to UT.

Franklin is a tool and has talked $hit about UT. Thats why Hart wont hire that POS.

When all is said and done, I think he's the hire. Not necessarily my top choice, but I'd be happy with it. More so than Jimbo Fisher. You got guys like Patteson doing more with less, and Fisher is managing to do less with more. They have been recruiting lights out the past few years, down there. No reason they shouldn't be dominating if they had good coaching.

The reason I think he will be the new coach is because he meets all the criteria Hart spelled out in his press conference. He's a high-character guy, and not one we have to worry too much about NCAA compliance. He knows the SEC better than any other prospect on the list and is a very good recruiter...in the SEC.

If we offered him 3-3.5mill/yr, that would be enough, even if Louisville stated they would match any offer. To me that's a bluff. Matching an offer to stay at Louisville vs the same amount to step (back) up to the highest level in College football, isn't going to be enough.
His recruiting coordinator clearly took interest free loans from Shapiro and violated numerous NCAA rules in the recruitment of Bridgewater and the Miami dozen! He has known about this for a long time and not fired the guy. Normally I would say there I would have to see the proof but they have the deposited checks!

Hiring Charlie Strong is like letting it all ride on red when you are already almost broke. He is Chavis with 3 years of head coaching experience, only one of which was successful. The best adjective to describe him is "solid", and we need someone who is excellent. I think it is unfair to Strong to come here and be run out of town after two years; TN fandom is at that point, mark my words.

Out of curiousity, what do you think makes him a better recruiter in Knoxville than all the other candidates?

Yes I do believe Franklin is every bit as good as a candidate as strong. I prefer strong because of his ability to be supported more from the masses but Franklin is just as qualified and maybe more so.

Exactly. Your wasting your breath I have tried explaining that several times to various posters. You dont put top 15 football recruiting classes together at Louisville. He would consistently have top 5-10 at UT. Cant tell some people a damn thing. Strong would be a HR type hire here and wouldnt take long to realize that. Some just think they know everything there is to know. Hart wont make a $hitty hire like Hamilton. Hart knows what he is doing and Hamilton needed to stick to fundraising.

Recruiting rankings at this stage mean absolutely NOTHING. Especially if your team is winning. We had a very good class last year, but it stinks up to this point cause a lot of prospects are taking a "wait and see" approach. Sure Louisville prospects are also waiting to see what happens (if Strong stays or not).

Thats pure speculation. Look at Nick Saban, Les Miles, when they won their championships they did so with top 10 classes.

Granted being in the SEC is a selling point, but is that not also one for the other 13 teams in our conference?

As everything sits at present, Charlie Strong does not have the recruiting credentials to win championships.

I don't understand why so many people think he would be a great recruiter. He hasn't recruited lights out anywhere he's been, especially at Louisvlle. Saying that being in the SEC would make it all better is naive at best. If so, then why hasn't Ky or Vandy or TN recruiting been lights out? Maybe because there is a lot more involved than just being in the SEC.

I don't see the attraction.

Some people don't understand how recruiting to Louisville is a tough job.

Look at Dooley's classes from La Tech compared to at UT.

He recruited his defensive front seven while at Florida. That was his baby in recruiting and he succeeded in that

Im not sure exactly what other realistic candidates are out there but will take a stab. I think Strong and Fisher would recruit on the same type level. Both have coached and recruited the SEC, were good at it and knew how. Think Fedora would recruit good too but his defense's are what scare me about him. Don't see Franklin as realistic so I wont be mention him, but if he had been anywhere but Vandy I think Hart would condider him. Dabbo scares me too, his recruiting tactics, being a bammer and lack of Defense's is my biggest issue. Think Mora would do well but if fans hate Kiffin for leaving then Vol fans would be hypocrits for expecting Mora to leave. Plus never recruiting or coaching in the SEC may or may not be an issue but he could bolt at anytime back to the NFL. Hell no to Smart, ex bammers and ex Sabans have caused enough problems. Of course no Petrino for obvious reasons and no Tressel because of the sho cause and already being on probation we dont need to take that kind of chance. I like Cutt, but anyone fired from Ole Miss..uh no..plus he isnt a good recruiter and with his loyalty to his staff and not exactly an all star staff makes me say no to him. Not sure what other names are out there so for me..Will say no to any guys with no HC experience except for Roman. Would def be happy with him.

TOP CHOICE
#1 Strong#2 or Stoops
#2 Patterson or Fisher or Roman or Mora or Shaw
#3 Fedora or Gundy

After those I say hell no to all these

Petrino, Tressel, Tuberville, Smart, Davis, Cutcliff, Chavis,Swinney,Briles, Taggert, Anderson and i am sure there is more.

I basically like your list of candidates with the exception of Strong on the Top Choice list. But, what makes him recruit better in Knoxville over the other candidates. I, of course, love Knoxville, etc, but what makes him a better UT recruiter than others? Not being smart, just wondering....

We need a defensive minded coach. If Strong could turn around the D in one year, then he should be our guy.

The biggest reason he would recruit better than the rest is he has significantly better relationships throughout the southeast. The rest on the list would all be in uncharted waters.

Can you find that quote by skeeter?

I think it might take a couple of years. We need speed in the secondary bad. Still I think he will put in a D that correctly uses the talent we currently have.

Only one. So that's why he won Big East Coach of the Year...in 2010.
