Charlie Strong

If we even call Shaw, all we will do is get him a pay raise at Stanford.

I am happy if we get Patterson or Peterson, would love either coach. My point was though for the people who are anti-Strong, why are you so against him

Thanks for all the opinions

Most aren't anti Strong, there are just more proven options that need to be considered before putting all of our focus on him.

As for your Shaw comment. You gotta call to find out.

I'm sure UT is exploring all conceivable opinions, judging interest from various coaches, etc... If Strong is the best option we can land, I will not be disappointed.

bush4550: Charlie is not going to leave this year for any team and Tennessee has little tradition. Charlie may leave next year, but not for that weak program. Although they do be Kentucky every year!

LoveThemCards: Tennessee has "little tradition"? What have you been smoking?

DixieCard: Tennessee has a huge amount of tradition. Wow, how can somebody say otherwise?

Strong is probably the man. I hope he can coach in the SEC.

Surely Hart can do better than that.
If it happens, I fear we will be doing all of this again in 3 years...and frankly, life is too short to keep wallering around in mediocrity.

Strong would do well at Tennessee.

He knows what it takes to win in the SEC

If it's strong, I am out. Cannot sit around for another 3 years and continue to watch. If we want to be this then let's join the big east.

No thank you, that is not the type of track record I expect of a coach hired by the University of Tennessee.

Look at this people. Are you all blind? And this is with a big-east schedule.

When all is said and done, I think he's the hire. Not necessarily my top choice, but I'd be happy with it. More so than Jimbo Fisher. You got guys like Patteson doing more with less, and Fisher is managing to do less with more. They have been recruiting lights out the past few years, down there. No reason they shouldn't be dominating if they had good coaching.

The reason I think he will be the new coach is because he meets all the criteria Hart spelled out in his press conference. He's a high-character guy, and not one we have to worry too much about NCAA compliance. He knows the SEC better than any other prospect on the list and is a very good recruiter...in the SEC.

If we offered him 3-3.5mill/yr, that would be enough, even if Louisville stated they would match any offer. To me that's a bluff. Matching an offer to stay at Louisville vs the same amount to step (back) up to the highest level in College football, isn't going to be enough.

It's a lot easier to recruit at UT than at Louisville. Who would want to play for Louisville?

This is where I am on Strong. He should be 4th or 5th option after every top name coach has to turn us down.

Strong is recruiting 73rd so far this year.

If we expect to win a championship thats not going to cut it.
Recruiting rankings at this stage mean absolutely NOTHING. Especially if your team is winning. We had a very good class last year, but it stinks up to this point cause a lot of prospects are taking a "wait and see" approach. Sure Louisville prospects are also waiting to see what happens (if Strong stays or not).

Stanford alum, West Coast guy through and through. Money won't matter to him unless the NFL comes calling.
How do we really know that? He makes 1.5. He pays
California state tax, and lives in the one of the highest cost of living places in the US.

Offer him 6 and make him say no to being the highest paid college coach out there. Keep his buyout high by paying him well on the frontend. NFL team comes calling, you get paid.

Make it public if it benefits you, whatever. But starting the interviews with CS does not inspire me. He needs another year of success. If we hire him, it is a terrible risk. It is so much safer to pay the best guys 6 mill a year than to muck through 3 more years with someone that is a 50/50 shot, and waste countless millions more. Mike Hamilton bungled the previous hire, and the one before that, and the Fulmer, Kiffen, and Dooley buyouts, and I have no faith in that department to make sound decisions.

Hire Charlie Strong and go 7-5 next year. Poor guy will hear no end to it and he has already shown that he is not a polished media and pr guy. Then watch the fireworks!

I, along with the majority of Vol fans, am just disappointed that we're probably not going to get that "home run" hire. We're at the lowest point since God knows when, and while Strong might be a solid coach with potential, he's not going to instantly come in here and make waves.

Well i sure hope u aren't on the Fedora bandwagon then because he's had more time to prove just how mediocre he will be.
Not saying Strong is my first choice but if it come down to him and Fedora I'd take Strong every single day of the week
