Charlie Strong

Strong was Meyer's best recruiter. He had an uncanny ability to connect with players. The players who played under him absolutely loved him and would have run through a brick wall for him. He would be an excellent hire for UT. He will give you in roads to both Florida and the Carolinas where there is a boatload of talent. For example, he was able to convince kids for Miami Northwestern (a perennial power in Florida) to go to Louisville. He also is a great person as well.

More ammo for those of us stating our case for Strong! The more I learn the more I love the thought of seeing Charlie in orange!!

Can you hold it against Strong that florida opted to go with a former SEC coordinator, head coach in waiting at texas and the supposed most coveted "next head coach" in the country? I don't.

If things are going well in an organization you typically "promote from within". Strong was a longtime DC in that system. So if, Strong with the Urban Myer DNA was not not what they wanted, there are obviously deficiencies in other areas, beyond the ability to recruit.

Personally, I don't want Florida's hand-me-downs or rejects. I have confidence that Tennessee can do better.

He's not a hand me down. That's what Dooley is, and Muschamp was the next best thing in CFB at the time.

Well since MY #1 isn't even being mentioned then Strong is my #1 of the guys that the AD are supposedly considering.
As for comparing him to Dooley, HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I'm pretty sure most of the country knows who Strong is and his name is being mentioned ALOT with all the coaching searches going on. Dooley on the other hand was a name almost nobody had heard and apparently was only brought by other candidates in the previous coaching search. Theres ALOT of schools that would love to get Strong as their HC. There wasn't 1 program in a BCS conf that would've been happy with dooley, except Hamilton and some other higher-ups at UT. Noone will have to google Strong when he is hired, EVERYBODY but La Tech fans had to google Dooley when he was hired.

Edit: For the record MY #1 is not Gruden, its Gary Patterson.

Strong was definitely considered but we really wanted to cut all ties with Meyers. Also he had two less seasons of experience as a Head Coach. UF fans would definitely not have been disappointed if Coach Strong came back, he was loved by fans and players unlike say Coach Mullen.

O good. A Gator touting Strong. Much like the Bammers and Dawgs told us what a steal Dooley was. I feel much better now!

Louisville ranked #42 in 2012 and cruising along at #73 this year. (Rivals)

Three 4 stars in 2012 and zero (yes 0) 4 stars this year.

Maybe you should do a little research before talking about all those 4*'s he brought in.

Maybe you should do a little research before trying to base an argument on a recruiting class that is far from being finished. The complete classes that he has had before this he has either finished 1st in the big east or second behind rutgers (who has an enormous amount of talent). You never see anybody that runs away with their conference in recruiting. The Big East is an average conference at best and it is going to be tough to recruit players of a higher caliber into it (especially at louisville where you don't have much instate talent). What is impressive is that he has been able to beat out schools like USC, Auburn, Clemson, and Miami to get kids to come play for louisville and the big east. That class last year also included 3 US Army All Americans.

Dooley was surely on no one's radar. Muschamp was simply paying his dues in a major program until a real opportunity showed up. I hope Strong gets an opportunity to move up the ladder as well. I just don't think he is ready for the level of Tennessee...maybe Auburn though...:) since we play them next year.

Strong would be a great coach, if we put the money into getting a good defensive staff, Tennessee will start competing right away...imo

I live in SC and always thought he would be a good HC when he was DC of SC. It's time to give a shot at a big time school.
He would do well with the recruits SEC pulls in.
And everyone talking about his recruiting rankings at "Louisville"
should realize its Louisville and kids dont want to go there.
If he could have UT to talk about instead he would be doing reallly well IMO

The only chance he got at a beating a signature team he won. That was West Virginia they were ranked 24 and they won their conference. At least he beat somebody with a winning record.

there is not much to sell at uva either but mike london seems to get consistent top 25 classes.

I actually think Golden has done pretty well with what he has had to work with. it may not be time for us to roll the dice with him, but I think he is a very good football coach.

he lost to a lot of stupid teams this year. That is the only reason we won't hire him. Also he has a losing record as a Head Coach. Tennessee and Auburn learned the hard way about that.

I will note that his Miami team this year is very young. Over a dozen starters are FR or SO. We know 1st hand that leads to rough seasons.
