Charlie Strong

Batman why do you come in this thread just to post nothing but hate about Charlie Strong? Dude we get it you don't like Charlie Strong.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again. Strong, Fisher, Gundy, and/or Fedora will be more than adequate as HBC at the University of Tennessee. Any of them can and will bring us back to the positive side of relevancy. As for who the best of those names is, that's obviously completely conjecture at this point. I like Strong for his charisma and defensive mindedness, but I like Gundy for his track record of success and his I don't give a damn what the media thinks, I want to win attitude. Fisher would be successful here as well, especially given our necessity for recruiting the state of Florida and his ties there. Fedora may very well eventually end up being the best name of them all, given more time and seasoning on the big stage. He wouldn't be an exciting hire initially, but I do think he'd put butts in the seats once we start winning.

All in all, I don't think any of these hires would be a failure. The only guy I unequivocally do not want is Al Golden. I don't feel that he would improve the team to the extent necessary to succeed in the SEC. I also don't think he'll be the one hired.

Given all of the above, in all likelihood, I tend to believe the hire will be Strong or Fisher. Strong is looking to make the next step in his coaching career, and Fisher and Hart apparently have a good working relationship. Either way, it's an improvement over what we've had the past several years.

Just my two cents.

Strong has been the man for awhile. Gundy level would be all that can stop it.
I think Strong is probably as good as we get in the deteriorated state of the program. He'll get us beating Vandy again. 7-9 wins pretty quick

Strong would work. Would recruit well. And oddly enough has a winning record at a school that is halfway almost relevant. 25th defense in the country (UT was 109) and 47th offense (UT was 19). I am pretty sure given the tools at his disposal at UT he would do just fine.

We need to lock this guy up and let him do work on the trail. Then go and obliterate our defense.

This makes too much sense...are you sure you belong on this board man? :)

One thing nice about Strong is he was snubbed by UF when he was passed over. Also he's a Central Ark guy not a Grad of one of our rivals. He shouldn't be somebody we'd have to worry would run off, assuming of course we want to keep him.

solid FCS school, FWIW

Again, do we have a shot at this guy? He seems adamant about staying in Louisville.

Publicly, but that's because you don't scorn your fan base by showing your indications of moving on prior to actually obtaining a new position...the fact that he's reportedly interviewed here and at Auburn tend to indicate he would be for a change of employment.

Strong's recruiting class at Louisville this year is looking pathetic. Not sure if it's because it's Louisville or if it's Strong but something isn't clicking. Class is currently at 73 with 8 (3 star) and 1 (2 star) which is terrible even for Louisville. Guess he won't be bring any 5 star studs with him.

Not to mention his 24 - 15 record over three years against an extremley week Big East.

He would be my hire of last resort.

Swain seems to think otherwise. He stated that if Strong is announced, a whole slew of top level talent will suddenly becomes Vols

I think that's recruits that want to play for strong but they don't want to play for Louisville.

I agree, but I wasn't arguing that he was bringing current high level recruits from UL. I was saying that his hiring would bring along a bevy of talent we aren't currently expecting from other locations.

Yeah if you're a 4 or 5 star recruit it wouldn't make sense to pass on an SEC school to go to Louisville unless you have family/locational ties/needs. For positions like CB or Safety it's not as big of a deal, but for DL or LBs it's a huge deal. If you're the big fish on a Big East DLine full of little fish then there's a limit to what you can accomplish as you will get double teamed consistently. But if you're a big fish on an SEC Dline full of big fish, you're going to get the one on one match-ups consistently (ala Jadaveon Clowney). So no I don't blame Strong for not being able to draw 4 and 5 stars to Louisville, there's a limit to what he can do. Not so with Tennessee. Highest recruiting budget in the nation, SEC recognition, etc.

What he means is when the going gets tough he plays the race card. Its a proven method for deflecting responsibility in our participation trophy society.

Since he was responding to a thread string about the "Strong supporters" playing the race card, I'm not so certain that's what he meant. But that's ok.

Edit: I would also like to see a link to the context that Strong plays the race card to deflect criticism when "the going gets tough".

I have seen him posit to the media that that's why he has been passed over for jobs. I have NEVER seen him play the race card to cover for losing. Anyone able to provide a link for this happening? If so, I will immediately pull my support for him as the next UT coach. If not... Then shame on you for asserting it.

I wasn't really knocking Strong I think he is a better coach then some others Hart may be looking at. When I said "bringing with him" I meant from Louisville. I have no doubt there are some big time athletes that will come to UT because of Strong. I would love to have a Bridgewater type QB here. That dude is a stud

Strong pulled (4) 4 star recruits out of Miami back in 2011 so he obviously has connections.

Okay, but I'd prefer Fedora.

I wouldn't. Fedora IS Mr. Mediocre. We already saw what happens when you build a team with little to no and only try to outscore your opponents in the SEC. Honestly the only way I would be excited for an O minded coach is if they were already solidified as a proven winner as a HC and going 12-2 ONCE, 7-6 twice and 8-4 twice is NOT a proven winner, thats proven mediocrity, especially when you look at the conferences he's done it in.

I misunderstood your statements about recruits following him. I apologize. I have been studying for my secured transactions final for 5 days straight, so I blame the UCC for my inability to properly read into your intent haha.
