Charlie Strong

Hope he goes to Auburn for our benefit.

Sure would suck to have a BCS bowl coach who has a couple of National Titles as a DC in the "big leagues". Not to mention he is one of the most respected recruiters in the SEC when he was here. Not to mention two other good football coaches (Spurrier, Urban) saw enough in him to hire him. But you are right it would be our benefit to miss on that.

Florida didn't want him.
DC titles...I'd rather have Chavis if I were pushed to a coordinator level hire. However, am sticking to a big league HC for the Vols.
And we play Auburn next year...so yes it would benefit us.

Florida passed on Strong....why?

Tennessee brought Johnny Majors from National Champion Pittsburgh, I think surely we can get a top tier coach somewhere that is of little risk.

Good post, btw

UF past on Strong because we wanted to cut ties from the Meyer era and head in a different direction. Some UF fans were upset we didn't hire Strong over Muschamp. Also Strong had two less years experience as a head coach at that time.

I'd really like Charlie Strong. The guy I think is the number 1 best candidate in front of anyone else that's been mentioned here IMO.

You would rather have Chavis than Strong. You are clueless.

No need to post that in here. Batman knows Strong wil never be a good coach at Tennessee.

Ok so who do you support??? Tressell, yah sure we can get him and then not have a football program in a year or 2 because he violated our probation.

at his hour...Gundy...Tressel is on the list because his productivity has been formidable enough. Working on the exact pecking order....

Wow Chavis over Strong. If Chavis was all that then he would've been a HC a long time ago, but even he knows he doesn't have what it takes to be a HC.
And florida didnt want him??? Why because they passed on him for one of the hottest names in all the coaching searches at that time, oh no how dare they. Also doesn't mean they didn't make a mistake but whatever, some fans are gonna be unhappy unless we hire an NFL coach or someone thats gonna get our program the death penalty.
Finally why are you in here then. If you so high on chavis then go start a chavis thread, or go to one of the threads that are supporting the coaches you want, why hang out in a thread of a coach you don't want??? Your not gonna convince anyone to change their minds by posting random gibberish and not PROVEN facts.

just wondering what will everyone call a good hire, as far as next years recored, so on what will a coach have to do to prove his self at UT?

Do not see how someboy being objective does not see how good of a hire Strong would be for UT.

Perhaps the statement could be re-phrased: Do not see how somebody being objective does not see other candidates with better HC experiences is a necessity for the Vols.

that's just it, we don't see the strong argument here. what are the differences between strong and davis? championship caliber dc, and inroads to Florida recruiting can be applied to both.... davis has had a lot more success as a head coach.

strong is 9 years younger than davis? ncaa troubles for davis? those are on the horizon at lville as well

What NCAA troubles are there at Louisville? I don't know about those. That said, I think Davis is a highly underrated candidate. He's the most proven winner on the market.

Hope he goes to Auburn for our benefit.

It's reasonable to think Strong is somewhat unproven. But to think he's demonstrably bad enough that you want him coaching another SEC team? That's crazy.

Chavis really isn't on my list, but neither is Strong. Again, my words were, "if pressed".

I am curious with the words, "unless we hire an NFL coach or someone thats gonna get our program the death penalty". Why would any major college prevent NFL coaches....seems like a good possible pool for quality football coaches to me.

I am in threads for honest discussion. Unless restricted, every thread is open for that in an intelligent world. I have not found threads to like-minded people. That would not be very open-minded. So, why are YOU here?

One thing nice about Strong is he was snubbed by UF when he was passed over. Also he's a Central Ark guy not a Grad of one of our rivals. He shouldn't be somebody we'd have to worry would run off, assuming of course we want to keep him.

Strongs record at louisville compared to petrino's. Strong - 7-6, 7-6, 10-2.... 24-14. Petrino - 9-4, 11-1, 9-3, 12-1... 41-9

siap but this is a fairly objective well written article from earlier today

Charlie Strong, staying or leaving? | UofL Card Game

Speculation that Petrino would go back to Louisville is interesting. I would rather have Petrino then Strong regardless of what others in the SEC "agree on". Hell I don't want Saban at Alabama but I doubt the SEC would agree on that.

I wouldn't consider Strong a home run hire by any means but he is somebody I could support. With Louisville's schedule 10 wins is not a great accomplishment. Still I would take him over some other names being floated. Malzahn would be near the top of my list fwiw.

No use even trying to argue with the Strong Supporters...they will call you either a "Grudenite" or a "Racist".....its Strong or no one for them.....almost as bad as the "Grudenites"

I support Strong, and would be in favor of several others on the list, including Gruden. And I haven't called, nor will I call, anyone a racist. Any more sweeping generalizations you'd like to make?
