Charlie Strong

NCAA cleared him of any wrong doing.

Ok ur right and Petrinos wife excepted him back but the ad at UT will not bring in a coach with baggage and the NCAA would be watching his every move is that what you want at UT more NCAA snooping around?????????

Why ?

He's a guy that can stay there for a period of time. Give a long term foundation recruit and coach well, have some success.

You guys seem to think that all you need to win is a recognized name. I don't think that's the issue. The big problem has been depth, or lack thereof. Your starters everywhere have been solid and competitive. But there has been such a drop off in the third and fourth quarters.

UT is closer than the fans think.

We had an overall outstanding offense, no defense and a head coach that proved to be overall inept. If we get a solid coach, a good defense, and continue recruiting for talent and solid depth, we will be over the hump.

I believe, because of his resume, Strong can provide all of the above. I also believe there are other coaches on our reported list of candidates that could also provide the ingredients needed.

Beyond all of that, I believe much of the bashing going on right now is childishness from a petulant fanbase that has become too familiar with bashing coaches and arguing with each other, just to be petulant children.

It needs to end, and we need to get behind whichever coach is the next head coach of the GREAT University of Tennessee.

Generally agree, but there are more problems than depth like lack of a dynamic pass rusher, a secondary that is so slow Strong himself could probably be a starting corner-back, and we don't have a running back that has consistently proven that he could be an starter on a good SEC team. The good thing is, with a Strong hire and by retaining Jay Graham many of these voids would be addressed right away in this class.

Sounds like Strong is very much in play. He isn't even giving the normal coach speak. TB or one of his callers did make a good point. Strong is going to have respect from his players. He is going to demand respect. I am thinking I like this guy more and more.

I would be really happy with Strong. I'd prefer Gundy first, Mora Jr. second, and Strong third, but I would be quite happy with any one of those three.

I think the truth is that Strong is neither as amazing as his supporters say nor as bad as his detractors attest.

Personally, I think his potential is greater than a guy like Fisher or Fedora, even if his results are not as distinguished yet. Gundy has had sustained success, and Mora Jr. vastly improved UCLA in just one season. I don't think we can go wrong with any one of Gundy, Mora, and Strong.

I endorse this post whole-heartedly... Well done, sir.

I guess, seeing the way you carry yourself (moron comments, name-calling, flip-off smileys, arrogance and condescension sprinkled with ignorant statements), I just can't help myself. I apologize.

It doesn't change the fact that you can't seem to help but forget your own arguments and contradict yourself at every turn, while making yourself look like an a** in the process.

I'm pointing this out for your own good... (How old are you, by the way? I ask out of legitimate curiosity. I have a little bet with myself whether you are a 14 year old that just can't help it, or an adult who should be able to.)

Obviously you missed where I respond in kind. when it is friendly debate, I respond friendly in return. Pretty easy. Finally, I won't even acknowledge your attempt to be sly with your age post. Just to say I have served in the first Iraq war, what is your claim to fame? I thought so.

He called out his fan base for not being more like "Big Blue Nation." Not the kind of thing you want to do if you're sticking around. I think he's very much in play with UT.

Those are the facts on what seem to be the top candidates that could reasonably be hired. There are other intangible factors to consider as well, but these are their coaching histories.
Explain to me how exactly that strong is leading the polls as our next coach.
If u take out the KKK guys and the NAACP guys then i would think most people would say he shoul be around 4th or 5th choice based on results.

As soon as Strong steps up to the podium he'll be a rock star. Its up to him to live up to it. This goes for any of the candidates.

If we as fans choose to not support our new coach, then you are right. If Strong is hired, the real fans will give him their support until he proves that he is not the man for the job.

For those that are saying he is not the man for the job, not sure what they are basing their statements on. I got the argument that he is coaching is in a lower tier conference, however he is winning. Until he coaches in the SEC, no one can say for sure that he will not succeed.

Until Saban, Miles, and Spurrier succeeded in the SEC, they all coached elsewhere.

I always love the Real Fans statement...lol....just bc I dont support a candidate and I am tired of blindly following someone until they burn me, does not mean I am not a real fan....smh....if he is hired and gets here and wins the East...I will support him...until that I will not....

I like him too. As long as he surrounds himself with high quality coordinators I think he is the man for the job. I think he would recruit very well here.

I have followed a great deal of your posting history in this thread, including your replies to me.

You actually acknowledged it. I wasn't trying to be sly. I'm glad you caught it.

PS: Thank you for your service. Was there a head injury involved?

Easy to explain Tressel an petrino both to much baggage.Grundy not as good of a recruiter an doesn't play defense kind of like the last guy. So is easy to see why Strong leads in votes.

The head injury comment was uncalled for.

Yea but if we are gauging if we would unite behind the hire I think the one winning the polls about who we want would have a great chance. That's not the same as speculation about their dream coach.

I can appreciate that point. I also think that may even be priority in all this mess. I just dont want to make a crossroads hire that could make or break this programs next decade based on the possible potential of a coach with very little HC exp.

It's a shame you don't know true honor and sacrafice. Anyone with half a brain wouldn't make a comment about head injury for anyone who has served in a war while you were at home in your snuggie sipping coco.

Does this sound like a man who is staying?:

I think Strong is most likely leaving, but consider this angle: He may know he is not getting the UT or Auburn job and is expressing his frustration with his current one as a way to bargain for more pay AND light a fire under the fanbase in some way. That might backfire, or it may succeed. Who knows?

...of course, that's even supposing my hypothetical is even accurate.

I just hope we know who our coach is soon so I can finally get off of VolNation for more than 30 minutes at a time, lol.

My family is military veterans. The head injury comment was giving our armed forces the benefit of the doubt. It's scary to think that they would arm someone as immature as him and send him oversees to represent us. The alternative is to think that his personality came after enlisting.

Be offended if you must.
