Charlie Strong

I haven't wandered onto other teams' boards before...For those that have, I'm curious, do those fan bases argue as much as we do? haha. If there's one thing about our fan base, we're rabid...for good or bad haha.

I would think that ARK's fans are pissed right about now. Almost a year and no coach named?

But while he was at Florida, he was recruiting those top classes. That defense was all recruited by Strong.

Those players came to Florida because its Florida, who is a premier program and they were mostly Florida players, not because Charlie Strong was the DC.

IMO, if we hire Strong, we could retain Chaney, Graham, Pittman and hire Tee. Then let Strong build his defensive staff. This route saves us a ton of buyout money, gives us a chance to recruit elite players, and win on the field both sides of the ball.

Thanks. Keep in mind I'm not in love with Strong. I think Fisher is the safer bet. I'd just like to see us take a risk on Strong as I really want a Defensive minded coach. I also think he has a chip on his shoulder and has the most to prove, in his mind, IMO a guy like Gundy or Fisher would just blame the situation if they had bad runs here and land on their feet.
Also IMO defense still rules in the SEC as witnessed this weekend. One other thing I like about Strong is he does not have ties really to a specific SEC school. FL snubbed him in passing him over especially in taking Muschamp, another defensive coach, and he played at Central Arkansas.

I'm in 100% agreement. My only concern is can we take another risk hire after Dooley? I don't know the answer, but I'm just not sure

Louisville is top 25 this yr in defense. Thats 3rd best in big east. BTW bowling green is #7 def in country. With that said, he is an upgrade because my battery would die before i could look thru enuf pages to find where tenn defense ranks.

All of these candidates have things you can pick on. Gundy's year this year was bad. Fisher and NC State besting him 2 of 3 with a now fired coach is bad. At this stage I'm embracing some of the things I do like and hoping for the best. It's all irrelevant anyway since I get no say.

Just an fyi, Strong had a press conference today avoided the are you leaving questions. The media is freaking out up here.

This is my favorite part. Focus money and his expertise on the one thing that has really killed us.

Not sure why there are so many people against Strong. We would be instantly better on defense, and with a good OC this team can be dangerous in years to come. As entertaining as our offense was under Bray and company, that doesn't win in the SEC. I want a badass defense and a strong running game where we control the clock. That's what wins championships. Fedora, Gundy, Fisher do not match those qualifications. Strong is a proven recruiter in the SEC I think he's just what we need.

I do agree. Hell, keep Chaney around at OC. His offenses have been largely successful, save a few gaffes that could be blamed on Dooley's players quitting on him and the fact that our defense forced our offense to press to score each possession. Saves money to boot.

I'm all for Charlie...would be so excited to have him as our HC. I don't think there's anyone else that's a realistic hire that has a better chance of winning a national championship with us.

Though I don't think Strong is the only solution, I concur with your as stated.

Great points.

Yeah that's true. I just hope when all is said and done we dont all feel like they should have let us decide. Wish we knew some real credible news on how and where this search is going.

He also inherited an awful program, is one of the most respected defensive minds in college football, and is a great recruiter.

That defense UF was winning with? That was Strong's doing.

It's too bad you don't like him. There won't be any more room for you on the bandwagon when he's winning at UT.

I keep seeing this, but haven't found the proof of it. Can you provide the information with links? I looked on Rivals for his recruiting classes. 2012 ranked 42nd, had three 4 stars. Had 1 US Army All American on it (Nick Dawson).

2011 he had Teddy Bridgewater as an Army All American. The overall class ranked 29th and had four 4 stars. (By the way, this ranking was only 1 below Gundy at Ok St).

2010 was ranked 48th and had four 4 stars. No Army All Americans.

I didn't realize there were so many fellow Louisville residents on here. I don't know if you saw his press conference today, but it was painfully clear that he has every intention of ditching UL for an SEC program Arkansas' pull would be that it's his home state...ours would be that we offer more tradition and better facilities (although Arkansas has some damn fine facilities in their own right.)
