Charlie Strong

To everyone saying they don't want Strong because he plays bad teams in a bad conference...I guess you all wouldn't have wanted Brian Kelly either, seeing as he coached in the same conference before going to notre dame. All they can do is play and beat the teams on their schedule.

He had info it just wasn't a lot, he still doesn't have a lot just a little more than he did.

Honestly, it could just be Hart wasn't doing a whole lot. So there wasn't much to report. He said he wasn't going to be interviewing coaches until that coaches season was done, and it seems that is what he has been doing. Just a guess really though.

Yeah that #73 ranked recruiting class he has this year is sure intimidating! :eek:lol:

Yea because signing day has come and gone. Damn Strong has the audacity to only sign 9 players this class. I could be mistaken but I thought signing day was in Feb, guess in Louisville its in Dec. No wonder he wants to leave.

I do not want Strong. I have seen no evidence whatsoever that the guy will be able to win championships at Tennessee. Do I think he can get us back to at least winning 7-8 games, yes, but that is not what this program is about.

How are you comparing Brian Kelly to Charlie Strong. All you have to do is look at the schedules between the two and see there is not even a comparison. Brian Kelly in his first 3 seasons played 4 ranked teams each year. That's just his first 3 regular seasons. Charlie Strong has faced only 1 ranked team the time he has been coach at Louisville.

That's essentially the depth of the warm and fuzzies for all of the named contenders at this point. At least IMO. When you play 6+ top 25 teams a year few coaches will be slam dunks. Look around the league and see all the good coaches being beaten by other great teams. GA by USC, Bama by TA&M, USC by LSU, et all.

I'm not saying we need a Gruden or Cowher, or a unicorn holding a rabbit's foot.. But we should be able to pull any coach we want from the ACC, PAC 12, etc. Its very telling that we can't.

With the state the program has been in for the past 3-5 years: four coaches in that time frame, the instability of the program, the multiple losing seasons and missed bowl games, the high expectations of the fan base, the apathy of national recruits toward UT, the relative lack of in-state talent, the financial shambles of the AD... (Have I missed anything?)

I am not sure that at this point we should be able to pull any coach from the ACC, PAC 12, etc... As UT fans, we feel like we should be able to, but the UT brand has lost luster for those outside the program/fan base.

The good news is that I believe we are on the cusp. A good, solid coach, staff and continual recruiting will have us relevant again in short order. I think Strong is one of several available that can bring those things.

You win this division with a strong defense and great recruiting, and I feel like Strong is the best one left on the board for that.

Once again, where does HE rank in recruiting over HIS HC career?
Florida always has good D.....with or w/o him.
Where did HIS team rank- that would be louisville......not florida.
I dont dislike him. He's absolutely a candidate. But is he top candidate......or is he the only one we can realistically get?

Recruiting at UL and UF are two COMPLETELY different things.

UF is in a talent laden state, and UL isn't. It's incredibly diffiicult to recruit at Louisville because no one wants to play in the Big East and Louisville isn't an attractive place to play football. The fact he's brought in All-Americans speaks volumes, IMO.

I initially read your post to say he's brought in African Americans...my reaction was...wow...racist and ignorant... Turns out I was just jumping to conclusions based upon the posts of other, "less informed" posters on this board...you actually made an intelligent, thought out post. And I agree with it wholeheartedly. You just earned yourself a like.

I think he is our next coach. I don't think he will win any NCG's, but I think we will no longer be a total embarrassment.

Is Charlie everybody's #1 choice other than Gruden? What are people thinking on this?

I think with the right staff he would be great here.

He is a hell of a recruiter, defensive guy and knows the grind of the S.E.C.

Its not the Gruden hire everyone wants, but from reading opposing boards Strong has opposing fans more worried than Gruden.

Not mine ... I am not sold ... recruiting is suspect and his depth of schedule leaves to be admired. The only reasons I have heard from people that want him is that he coached at Florida. If he was that awesome coach and recruiter I would have seen Florida keeping him.
