Chase Burns Appreciation Thread

I see all this negative hate towards Burns today and I start to wonder. Why didn’t I hear this much hate when Fanning, Stanwich, Fitzgibbons, Bimbi, Swistak, and Scott all announced they was entering the portal?
Casual fans don’t even know some of those you mentioned. It’s probably as simple as that. Burns is a big name with potentially a big role. My son was upset about Bimbi and Scott😂😂

I’ll appreciate what he did down the stretch. I’m sure this is money related. Disappointed that the powers that be at UT didn’t match the offer. We will survive because of TV. I’m genuinely shocked though

That’s a little harsh. He doesn’t like the opportunity he was presented here so he is moving on. Until he bashes the coaches or the university he isn’t crying or pouting just trying to find the best fit for him.
He got his feelings hurt and is now leaving because of it. I'm not thanking him for anything.

Were they all butthurt because they got moved to the bullpen? Totally different circumstances than can't be compared.

I appreciate Chase in helping bring us a regular season and postseason SEC Championship and being instrumental in getting us back to Omaha and being THE reason we secured our first win there in over 2 decades. A lot of times in college baseball we only get to see these kids actually play meaningful innings for 1 season and then they are off to the draft or graduated. We only got Tidwell for 2 seasons so I see this as nothing different to me. We should be blessed that he even chose to come to Tennessee in the first place. He helped get us back to where we were in the mid-90s and recruiting is off the charts right now. I wish him no ill will and hope he has a long and prosperous MLB career.

What do you get out of belittling players? If a kid makes you this upset that’s not related to you, and chances are you don’t know him personally, then you need to reevaluate yourself. Yes it stings that he not longer with the team. But I will not call him names and rather he stays or not it will not affect my life either way outside the game or baseball. Jsut say good luck and move on. Let’s support the players that did stay and stop worrying about the players that didn’t.
Who's upset? Coaches did him a favor by pulling him into the relief role and he cries about it and wants to leave. I will give him credit that he continued to play and give his all, but transferring in this situation makes you look like a weak baby. I wish him no ill will.

I wonder what will happen when one of these NIL bigs is failed because of grades and transcript is not good enough to transfer. Remember they are still students. (so to speak)

With the NIL now and all that comes along with it, I can almost guarantee that grades aren’t a big factor. It’s all about winning now and schools will do whatever they have to do to achieve it. You really think Paul Skenes for example is sitting in every class and not missing anything?

Yes I do think Paul Skenes is going to class. He was most likely the most mature player on that team and possibly more mature than some of his assistant coaches. Don’t forget Skenes came from a military academy he spent 2 years at. I will give him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to self discipline over a normal college kid.

You don’t know anything about Burns. There is only a select few on this site that can actually say they do know him personally. Burns has never said why he’s leaving and Vitello didn’t either. But what I do know he is directly the reason why this team got out of Hattiesburg and Clemson, I do know that. Even if it has been known for awhile he’s transferring, he handled it like a professional and continued to go out and give his all. He didn’t quite mid season like 4 of the guys I named. Burns and Fanning completed the season before hitting the portal. The others hit the portal while we was in the middle of a playoff run.

I don’t know about “hate,” but only one of the guys you named was getting interviewed on the field post-game on national TV after starring in the CWS. The others barely played all year. Seems a little different.

Hard to show appreciation for someone who you feel like is giving up on his team. This makes me a little sad for all of college sports. Free Agency is what killed MLB for me and this NIL Transfer Portal will kill College Sports for me as well. And i think you all know what i mean by kill it. Realignment can be tossed in there as well.

You’re right, it is different. It’s been known for awhile now that Burns was transferring at the end of the season. That alone says a lot about who he is. Even knowing he not returning, the coaches knowing it, and yet he still kept going out there giving his all for UT and is the reason we beat USM, Clemson, and Stanford. The other players I named quit on the team during the season and decided to enter the portal while we was making a push for Omaha. Why not wait a couple more weeks and enter the portal when season is over with? But instead Burns and Fanning kept with it while the others quit on the team during the season.

hogwash. we benefit greatly from it too. think about merrit, lindsey, denton, ahuna, halvorsen, etc. it's not always going to be one-sided in your favor.
