Chavis, almost an lsu tiger!

Chief is Clemson's top choice -- the folks I know close to Clemson say it's not even close, he's who CU wants. Their other options are Paul Rhodes and Marion Hobby, so I expect Chief to be their guy.

Why hasn't he been hired yet?,, maybe money, or some other reason?

I hear dabo wants talk a couple others but unless he's super impressed, the job will be offered to chavis. Also dabo has said he doesn't want comment on staff changes til after bowl, so they may have deal worked out but just no announcement til after bowl?

Money won't be a real problem. They won't break the bank for Chavis, but they can pay him what he's worth.

Swinney's got a few more interviews lined up. Likes Chavis a lot though.

Word from my Clem connections is that Chavis was offered today. Not sure when they will announce, but if Chavis accepts sounds like a done deal.

If Chavis can construct an SEC defense in the ACC, Clemson will win alot of ACC titles and those boys in the ACC will know why the SEC is a better conference.

I wish John Chavis the very best. Great coach, fine man. Hope he's more assertive with position coaches who convinced him to give that 10-yard cushion on third downs. The only plausible concept for it I can think of is that they wanted Berry/Morley/Vinson/Rogan to read the QB's eyes and pick-off a bunch more passes... unfortunately, they judged the rest of the conference by what they were watching in practice. Most SEC QB's don't need 20 seconds to check off.

Plus when it takes 3 mins. to get to the Qb. Your leaving your corners out to dry anyway.

I wish him the best, too. He always struck me as a guy who could do a lot with a lot, but when there was adversary (injuries, poor play) he couldn't adapt and coach the unit into solid play.

Chavis sucks. I'm glad he's gone. I only wish he could have gone to Florida or Alabama. Unfortunately, those head coaches recognize a POS defensive coordinator when they see one.

I don't think even a small number of people would argue Chavis sucked. We've had some great D's come through here. He wasn't the best when his plan didn't work, but when it was clicking we did very well.

I wish we could dig up all the posts of people saying no one would want Chavis if he wasn't at UT. I know there have been plenty but I'm just too lazy

How is he a bad coach?

Have you watched our team the last few years? I can count a ton of times where he completely was outcoached and failed to adjust to what the opponent was doing.

Glad he's going, time to clean house.

He has had troubles adjusting...but his stats aren't exactly the definition of a bad coach.

Total defense rankings in college football are a bit deceiving due to the amount of cupcake teams most schools play. I prefer to take a look at how a coach performs in bigger games.

We should have kept Chavis and made him HC then we could have sucked somemore. Please let LSU enjoy his 3rd and forever defense.

Better hope he goes to Clemson. If he gets the LSU athletes you'll wished we had him back. LSU always has D talent, especially DL and LB. Chavis was better here than he will ever get credit for.

I guess that word was off,, and I thought Dabo had already made a hire or two or at least already fired his DC. I still thnk Chavis is LSU bound.
