But seriously. Some of the strictest gun laws around. Fun free zones. Liberal leadership out the wazoo, and not a blip from the mainstream. The more I watch the mainstream media (and it’s all I watch) the more convinced it’s a conspiracy.

The Chicago mayor is actually blaming Republicans for their mess. Says the gun laws of neighboring states are the problem in Chicago. Lol. It’s especially funny since the neighboring states don’t have the issues that Chicago has.

It’s not a conspiracy, it’s just not click generating news. There’s no racism angle, it’s overwhelmingly handguns being used, most of the victims don’t have a sob story to report on.

What do the gun laws have to do with people choosing to shoot and kill another person? All the neighboring states could ban guns tomorrow and the gangs will simply get them from somewhere else. The whole country could ban guns and the gangs will get them. The same way they move billions of dollars of drugs into this country every year.

Some of the violence in Chicago may be drug cartel related. But most of the gang violence is petty street gang violence. They don't have the capital to pay for guns at exorbitant prices, which would occur if they were outlawed.

What public funds does a gun owner use by use of a gun? Registration is about taxing not safety.

And if you have taken the driver test in TN in the last decade you know it's not a safety thing. They dont even make you parallel park. One of my class mates passed even though he hit another vehicle on his test. We were laughing until he walked out with the license in hand.

And the license is to drive, not to own, the car. And you could still legally drive without a license of you stay off of public roads. So unless the government is going to start running shooting lanes you dont have a real comparison.

Stolen guns are already expensive relative to the legal market. A decent handgun with no bodies on it will run $1000-$1500. But if you’re making $500-700 a day selling drugs then that’s not a big deal. Outlawing may make a nominal price increase but they can simply raise their prices to pass it on to the consumer.

As for the cartels, they move billions of illegal product across our border every year. What makes you think they can’t move guns if they were outlawed? It would just be one more revenue stream for them.

A kilo of cocaine is lighter (1 kilo), harder to detect, more compact, and more valuable (150k street value of a kilo of cocaine) than an AR-15. The kilo of cocaine is sold to multiple end users, making the product fairly affordable for the end user. In contrast, the AR-15 would go to just one user, making it a high dollar purchase, which would of necessity be too expensive for most end users.

You mention the price of black market guns now as being fairly affordable. But the hypo we're supposed to be dealing with is their cost if guns we're all illegal. It would be substantially higher than it is now, pricing out most gangbangers.

You realize you can break a gun down into many smaller pieces and a dog isn’t gonna be able to sniff it out. Also they don’t move 1 kilo across the border at a time.

I get it. Chicago gun violence is totally out of control. Instead of Senators and Mayors carping at each other why doesn't our President step in and solve the problem and use it as a model for other cities. He's already said he would.

Actually Mayor Emanuel said "send them".
'Just Send Them': Emanuel Tells Trump to Send Federal Help

If he can divert funds and resources to build a wall in Texas he can divert funds and resources Chicago. He doesn't have to have the Mayors or Governors permission even though he did have it. Just declare it a National emergency and do it. I don't think he has a clue how to go about it though.
