China Thread

It’s coming, and our leaders have been asleep at the wheel for over decade. China has made very clear their intentions and we don’t have a long term plan to deal with the fallout. They will not wait until Biden’s term is up.
I think this is going to happen sooner as opposed to later. I think an invasion of Taiwan will happen before November 2024 or January 25. It will be incredibly calculated and will have been planned for a very very long time. Pretty much the opposite of what we’ve seen from the inept Russian military.

If war occurs, I am not sure the nation would be united like in past. Might not even matter.

With Taiwan being an island, i wonder how feasible us supporting Taiwan in a Ukraine-esque manner would actually be. We would likely have to airdrop supplies into the island. If one of our planes get shot down, I could see us easily getting into a kinetic war with China with retaliation. Of course, the other option is just directly supporting Taiwan militarily. Both scenarios I could see leading to WWIII.

It's such a tightrope that our leaders will have to walk soon. Unfortunately, I have exactly zero confidence they can navigate these waters successfully.

From what I’ve seen reported by military analysts, China’s ability to blockade the island will completely shut them off from everything. We won’t be getting anything in or out of there.

We had our chance to decouple. Pharmaceuticals are going to be a big problem for us. The consequences will be unreal.

In that case, supporting Taiwan = WW3. I know they manufacture a lot of our semiconductor chips, but I don't know if even that is enough of a justification to get involved given the consequences. Of course, Biden has said that we would defend Taiwan upon invasion. So basically, if Biden's word is truthful (which is a big if), a Chinese invasion essentially means a direct conflict with China.

2 nuclear armed countries have never gone to war before. There is no precedent. None. We do not yet know how humans respond in such a scenario...for Louder and the other fellow war buffs here...Has there ever been a battle or war in which both sides posessed a deadlier weapon that what was commonly used at the time, but showed the restraint to actually refrain from using the most destructive weapon available to them?

Is it even possible for us to begin losing most or all of our surface Navy fleet with all those sailors to cruise missiles etc and us choose NOT to use our nuclear armed subs which are SURELY right near China to start annihilating every major military base at a minimum...if not Beijing itself? The submarines are without a doubt the biggest deterrent of the nuclear triad...for those who arent familiar, the reason is because they give us the 1st strike advantage in any nuclear exchange due to their ability to get in very close range of China, Russia, Iran etc and therefore have the shortest flight times to impact versus ICBMs from our mainland installation silos or the closest nuclear capable bombers. Each nuclear attack sub carries around 30 Trident cruise missiles with nuclear warheads many times as powerful as those dropped on Hiroshima or Nagasaki. A single sub, if able to launch all its missiles could destroy every major city in China...and i believe we have over a dozen at sea on any given day out there silently beneath the waves..

Like many here, I am pissed that our leaders have dropped the ball and not listened to the ChiComs over the lasy decade...as they have repeatedly told anyone who would listen that they were preparing for war. I am also pissed that we have without a doubt THE most inept president at least since WW2 in office...and that while China is openly preparing for war with US , we are sending billions of $ worth of our weapons, equipment, and ammunition to Ukraine...which only further weakens us. All of these things are terrible, and makes this a great time for China to attack and draw us into a war through their carefully laid traps in the South China Sea...we have been so very stupid and it will cost us dearly. I think the real question is though:

Will we take an azzwhipping in the Asian theatre losing thousands of young US soldiers, sailors, and airmen...without launching the dozens of nuclear warheads we already have lurking silently beneath the seas there in retaliation???

Should we?

Should we mind our own damn business and worry about only our own country and interests?

What do you gents think,?

I can tell you this, every single nuclear weapon we have is at least 50-5000 times what was dropped on Japan in WWII. I'm sure we have some battlefield types that are about the same or smaller that wouldn't like be used until the Crap really hit the fan. In my opinion, once a modern day nuclear bomb is dropped, the world is over as we know it, the end of mankind.

We do posess tactical nukes about the same as what was dropped on Japan, but they are now so compact they can be carried as missiles on Air Force jets for air to ground precision strikes. Like you said though...I cannot see a scenario where those were part of the picture in a war against a nuclear peer like China. I believe any nuclear strike would be many warheads launched as quickly as possible in an attempt to completely destroy Chinas military command and control, any nuclear sites we are aware of, military bases etc. Like you, I believe a nuclear exchange between us and china would be the end of the world as we know it.

Theres a reason all those Chinese spy balloons blew all the way across our country from Washington state to Myrtle Beach SC....the Gulf Stream pulls everything from there to here on this huge globe we call Home. Even if we were able to catch them by surprise and wreck China without suffering many direct strikes to the US....that nuclear waste, fallout, and nuclear winter would flow directly from them in Asia to the US and Canada here. It is a no win situation. Does that mean we wouldn't launch them though? If faced with the destruction of our military and our once great(er) country...would we have any choice in the matter?

Is Taiwan really worth killing off most or all of the human race?

It may be better to deal with China now than when they have taken Taiwan, built up their military more and have their sights set on taking over Asia. They are only going to get stronger.

Not to me it isn't. I once thought that our leadership in the developed world was done with warmongering, but apparently it's still in our genes to kill other cultures. We will win the award for being the shortest lived species to dominate this planet.

China has well over 500 warships.
Do they have sufficient capacity to ferry back and forth tens of thousands of troops and supplies?

It's conceivable that China could try to create a blockade against Taiwan, which would be quite problematic.

But a full-scale invasion? That's an entirely different ballgame.

I agree. There is no way China waits until there is like a Trump in office. Will they play roulette that Biden gets another term or do they speed up their timeline to take advantage of incompetence?

They don’t have the military amphibs we do - that is true.

They have 1000’s of actual ferries though that they have been using to move troops and materiel.

It’s 100 miles. A relative stones throw.
