China Thread

They are exporting 500 billion to 350 million people in the US. The US in exporting 150 billion to 1.5 billion people in China. Obviously China is a protectionist country. Have been for a long time, using the Japanese economic playbook. Open up those markets!

This is a good big-picture essay which discusses China quite a bit.

A New Vision for American Foreign Policy Part I - Balding's World
A New Vision for American Foreign Policy Part II - Balding's World

I've gotten a little too caught up in the trade negotiations/tariffs/tit-for-tatism and need to take a step back to assess the other things going on.

It's a real problem that western trade is not opening up China's government to democratic reforms. In fact it's actually exporting tools for authoritarianism to other states. This has got to be challenged. for the liberal world order to flourish. Or maybe even survive.

Patrick Simmons... he could play. Back when 'albums' were an experiance not just a collection of songs.....

Yeah, I just started reading this thread....

I saw Earth Wind and Fire a couple of weeks ago. Lots of new members but core is there. They play. Hit after hit.

Trivia...Can you name the state of the town China Grove? I was there a few months ago.

Apparently these tarheel folks werent real creative, or the west settlers werent...there is dallas nc, denver nc...both within a half hour from my house...china grove, you name it. Pretty much any major city in the US is also a 3 stoplight town in NC with a 37% obesity rate. Not an exaggeration, actual statistics...

I looked up these towns. I used to live in Mooresville for several years in the 90's, and these towns look to be in same vicinity. I like the Piedmont area. Worked in Davidson and hung out on Lake Norman.
Used to drive my Camaro around and got a wave or two from Dale Earnhardt passing by.

When the sun comes up on a sleepy little town
Down around San Antone

La Grange is on the way from Houston to San Antonio.
China Grove is out near oil patch land. I have no idea why the Doobies said down around San Antone. Now Lukenbach is near San Antone between Fredericksburg and New Braunfels.

It is just outside San Antonio. I was in town a couple of times when I moved there last fall.

China Grove is about 12 miles (19 km) east of downtown San Antonio.[citation needed]

I always assumed the Doobies just needed a cool lyric 🤷‍♂️ “Down San Angelo” doesn’t have near the same ring to it. Or “Down around Abilene”

I guess 300 miles would be about right from Dallas to San Antonio, just not sure why it shows in oil patch country.
Down around Abilene sounds like a Don Williams song. Country and Western use West Texas references.

Lol Google Maps has it in San Antone too! I always just trusted Apple Maps. Dumbazz me I think you’re right @Orangeburst65

Glad you were not taking a road trip there! Can u imagine getting there and finding you are 500 miles away? Texas is a big mutha!

Guess my little trivia was a head scratcher, hehe

I did look it up in Apple Maps years ago on a bet. Sounds like I need to try and remember who I bet🤷‍♂️ However I trust the lil ole band from Texas has a decent idea where LaGrange is

They are getting hit with a bad case of Swine Flu. They may lose up to a 1/3 of all their pigs. That will put a little more pressure on them
