Chinese spy balloon hovering over Montana

For consideration, if this had occurred 4 years ago, with a verified Russian spy/surveillance balloon, over the same area during Trump's administration, Imagine the media's reaction and those on the left side of the aisle.

Per DoD, they're going to continue to monitor it as it travels eastward over the continental US.

May be off base here, but have to wonder about an Administration that wants to suddenly make felons out of potentially millions of law-abiding citizens over firearms, but hey, if the Chinese want to fly spy balloons over the country, they are fine with it.

What the ????? I mean, talk about conflating utterly different things.
And poorly at that

I don't know if it did and neither does anyone else. Nor does anyone know why the US is choosing the path it is.

It's easy to take pot shots at Biden over this, and of course the usual suspects are whining he's weak. But fact is no one knows enough to say.

He is weak and frail that’s what the whole world sees , and it has nothing to do with a weather ballon .

Mathematically, it is
No. It isn't. Army rangers fly in a plane that goes where they want and puts them in the position they want to be in to jump. You have no idea where or what this thing is. But maybe I'm wrong and there is no way that shooting this thing down could result in damage to persons or property.

We know exactly where it is. There was this thing called radar invented in the 1930s. Really handy. I think we might have a couple lying around somewhere

I realize, but my question remains.

It's a balloon, not a jet airliner. The "debris field" they are so worried about its not going to be that bad because the craft isn't going to be spread out as far as a 500 MPH airliner would be.

If our government and military can't say with some accuracy where that thing will come down nor be able to look at a map and say "nobody for a hundred miles of this place" the incompetence is far worse than I thought.

I didn't say the government doesn't know where it is. I said you don't know where it is.

Smart thing to do. Let it drift over more populated areas.

Honest question, where does this great complexity in you mind come from? The balloon is X and the "shoot down" point is Y. From there (a known point) it is pretty much identical to how the Baumgartner landing area was calculated. If it were over an urban area ok fine, I see your concerns, but we're not trying to throw a bottle in the Mississippi and try to extrapolate when/where it might hit Australia. It simply isn't.

How do we get rockets into space and people back?

Montana is one of least populated states in the USA. The potential "debris" has a much greater chance of hitting a tree or pile of grizzly bear crap instead of a person.

LOL

Your risk tolerance must be minuscule.

I'm curious how you're so certain about this situation and what risk it presents. I'm pretty sure the only any of know is that there's a Ballon over Montana and it's Chinese.
