Chinese spy balloon hovering over Montana

I don't know if it did and neither does anyone else. Nor does anyone know why the US is choosing the path it is.

It's easy to take pot shots at Biden over this, and of course the usual suspects are whining he's weak. But fact is no one knows enough to say.
That's the problem entirely, it's too easy. The entire world knows he's a lame duck leader, propped up, unable to follow and intelligently reply to complex situations and literally no one believes he's making decisions at the highest levels.

I've considered presidents for years as little more than figureheads and puppets but Biden certainly is, without question.

LOL, I'm sure you'd show the same level of restraint had it happened under the Trump administration.

I didn't say the government doesn't know where it is. I said you don't know where it is.
So what, I am not the one shooting it down am I? I mean the military can wait until it is over a safe zone and then shoot it down. You folks are making this thing way too complicated. This ain’t plotting a gravity assist at mars to get to Jupiter or anything

Well, if it is a float spy sack, I figure the Chinnies are following our fine example. The USA invaded the aerial sovereignty of Russia, China, and even some of our allies with impunity when we could get away with it. When the Soviets knocked ole Gary Powers out of his U-2, we just switched over to the SR-71. Until its ability to either outrun or out climb the missiles of its day. As for USA's innocence, we use balloons to spy on our citizens. Point? If we want to point fingers, each time you do, three of your fingers point in your own direction.

Why stop there? Let's go so the way back to feudal China and the nobles use of spies. The whatabout is one of the weakest arguments that can be posited, because you can always go further back.

The point is it's a wreckless time to do something of this nature and the only reason to do it out is to provocate. Spy satellites are capable of just about any information they could get from that balloon. The only reason to do this is to whip up the public..... The question is what does China have to gain? Why?

The boldened is the most important part regarding this incident. The question is not, has not or will not be what X country is willing to attempt. That's just geopolitics. What we're observing now is a fully acknowledged piece of Chinese tech blissfully floating in US airspace unmolested.

Fortunately we can all count on WoodsmanVol to remind us how evil America is (not its uber progressive government, mind you, just America itself). Arent you late for tea with Jane Fonda?

And my, well, two points are: 1. It's nothing new. 2. We are just as guilty as the Chinnies, indeed our example taught them to pull off such shenanigans. It's no different than when at one point, the USA told the DPRK, if you make the wrong move, North Korea will cease to exist. So NK, went all out to copy us by developing and deploying their own nukes. Guess what? All we did was provide them a fine example on being a a Duke Nukem bully. No it's no surprise the Chinnies have also taken chapter from our own book.
North Korea warns of 'all-out' nuclear weapons response to 'threats' from U.S., allies I'm not whatabouting as certain factions in the forum do. I'm expounding the truth of the adage that what sow is what you reap.
