Chinese spy balloon hovering over Montana

Chinese spy balloon forecast to fly over these states in the next few hours

Other predictions suggest it will then travel over Kentucky and Tennessee, and toward the border between the Carolinas. Weather patterns are subject to change, and so the path of the balloon could alter in the coming days from the predicted trajectory.

So would the pantywaists in the Administration be okay if we shoot it down and collect it once it moves off the Carolina Coast? No “danger” to uninhabited land then right?

See, I didn't ASK for a threat, I said arm me and point me at a threat to our national security, and I'll pull the trigger. A clear statement of if put into a situation where I had to perform a military duty to my country in the name of national security, I'd perform said duty. You want to twist into me running around like a mad man asking and begging to find someone to kill. Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire: The College Admissions Scandal

My guess is it is a combination of raising or lowering altitude to catch different wind directions along with limited propulsion from electricity powered propellers powered by the large solar cells. Would give at least some control.

IIRC if it's inside 12nm it's still "our" space. Shoot it down and recover. Only way to know exactly what is was floating over our airspace.

I'd have done so much earlier but at sea you pretty much remove the "but it could fall on somebody's cows" bit.

It is solar powered.
It probably has data transmission capabilities
It probably has sensors
Personally I think it is all a nothing burger, but I would shoot it down. It could fail over a high population center anyways.

Listen. I have a plan. It involves @McDad , a gun, a lawn chair, and lots of balloons.

If the military won't take action, VN will!

Speaking of will, McDad may want to make sure his is in order.....
