So, the Pentagon is sticking to the "it's a spy balloon, with limited maneuverability." since we are dealing with a spy balloon, I went reading into reasons why?, and why a balloon (the big question).

Turns out the pentagon announced Thursday that we have formed a partnership with the Philippines to add additional bases in the indonpacific and china seas. This is directly to deal with the China threat. We now have them basically on all sides in every direction. It's an attempt to contain them (It's a big deal). THAT, along with the statement issued by the airforce general telling his military to get ready for a confrontation with China in 2025 with some pretty explicit language a week or so ago, is combining with Blinken's now cancelled visit that was supposed to happen this weekend. It was enough to push China into a show of force of some kind.

I read up on why a balloon with some analysts from various places, and it turns out a balloon was the perfect vessel for a non confrontational, but still meaningful show of force from China. It's not doing anything, and they WANTED us to see it. It's a "look what we can do" thing without being too confrontational. A reminder to the USA.

There is really no reason to take it down yet, and it may not be active at all if this is the case. It's simply a "don't come any closer" from China because of recent US moves in that area. That would make sense.

Let's guess for a moment this ISN'T anything more nefarious then spying. I.E. no nuclear, chemical, or biological payloads.

Data they may be after
1.) Targeting. Satellites especially theirs's are more limited. Their supersonic nuclear missiles are only as accurate as their data. So for a cruise missile they may want more accurate data for targeting. It made a B line for our ICBM fields. A very likely target in a first strike scenario. It could even be used for targeting in an immediate strike, but if not the data it records could be very useful for such sorts of weapon systems, cruise missiles etc. It also could be for an EMP plan.

2) Maybe there has been a substantial change they are concerned about. We agreed to several treaties for nuclear arms reduction, it is unlikely they and the Russians have been faithful unless for financial reasons, perhaps they have reasons to suspect we have not been faithful on our end either, and want a closer look. Perhaps this is even the reason we are allowing it to pass over. A closer view then satellites might make it more clear the readiness of silos, and or building of new ones. Or refitting of older ones that were supposedly mothballed etc.

3) They want to get a better idea on pattern for a future biological or chemical attack. Their own generals since the 1980's have told their own military that an attack on the United States would likely be biological. With early attacks something with plausible deniability (not unlike covid) and then a later more serious more fatal pandemic, and then last a direct release of anthrax etc when our defenses are down, They very much do not want to use Nukes, as they hope to seize the American breadbasket for themselves. This is no joke there are numerous videos and translations of their brass discussing this. Even if this isn't the attack per say, it might be a proof of concept or trial run.

Everyone who wants to remotely be informed about China, and the threat it poses, and has seriously planned for the U.S. should read this. This is after all their own words where they outline their war plan for us. .

Our ECM / EW planes have been on it since before it first made news. Makes me wonder if it's able to relay much of anything, or they would have to physically recover it for the data.

BUT I am sure they also are monitoring our response...and that is useful data too.

I'll be honest with you. If it is what they SAY it is, and I have no reason to doubt them, I don't think they know WHAT to do with it. It's too high to reach with aircraft. Our fighter jets clime to around 50,000 ft. You would still have to clime another 10-15 maybe more before you reach it. It doesn't have any heat or exhaust to tag or lock onto. We can jam it (we are). Other than that, we can break out some new highfalutin secret darpa laser weapon that we are not prepared to show off yet.

LOL. We can put a cruise missile through someone's bedroom window from 100s of miles away, take out a car full of terrorists with a knife bomb, shoot missiles down with auto canons, and somebody thinks we can't take out a bus-sized balloon at 60,000 ft?

First off, balloons go much higher than planes. IDK how high this thing is, It's up there. Secondly... it seems like they would like to capture it relatively intact if possible. They might wait for it get over the ocean or something, how would I know? Thirdly... what exactly are you supposed to do with it?
