Just catching up on this story. I'm sure there is political banter so will someone tell me if it makes me a Nazi or MAGA if I think we should take that bitch out, and yesterday?

Haha.

I think we should try floating some ish over China and see what happens.

This is so simple. It's called "F around and find out." Total ploy to test our response. That thing never should have crossed the Aleutians.

I mean, maybe it IS time to break out the secret space lasers. I know we have them in the works. They said they had them. Is it worth it to tip your hand and possibly fail?

The COVID is enough for me. Yet crickets.

We have. We do. We will continue to do so. We could wipe a billion Chinese off the face of the Earth if we had to.

We're fine.

Beside, if Chinese, the equipment it is made with Chinesium. It likely broke before it reached altitude.

So, the Pentagon is sticking to the "it's a spy balloon, with limited maneuverability." since we are dealing with a spy balloon, I went reading into reasons why?, and why a balloon (the big question).

Turns out the pentagon announced Thursday that we have formed a partnership with the Philippines to add additional bases in the indonpacific and china seas. This is directly to deal with the China threat. We now have them basically on all sides in every direction. It's an attempt to contain them (It's a big deal). THAT, along with the statement issued by the airforce general telling his military to get ready for a confrontation with China in 2025 with some pretty explicit language a week or so ago, is combining with Blinken's now cancelled visit that was supposed to happen this weekend. It was enough to push China into a show of force of some kind.

I read up on why a balloon with some analysts from various places, and it turns out a balloon was the perfect vessel for a non confrontational, but still meaningful show of force from China. It's not doing anything, and they WANTED us to see it. It's a "look what we can do" thing without being too confrontational. A reminder to the USA.

There is really no reason to take it down yet, and it may not be active at all if this is the case. It's simply a "don't come any closer" from China because of recent US moves in that area. That would make sense.
There is one shortcoming in any attempt to “encircle” China and that is to the North. Our failure to help end the conflict in Ukraine means that Russia views us as even more of a strategic adversary and will be loathe to join us in any concerted efforts to present a unified policy to contain China. As I have said from day one, the only real “winner” in the Ukraine conflict is clearly China.
We also need to shore up relations with India to contain China from the West. Our policy towards India is too much ambivalent currently

Has any thought been given to if this craft has EMP capabilities?
I just read that China says its a civilian weather experiment. It just "got lost" and happened to float over our ICBM sites in Montana. Normally, I trust everything China says, but this is pushing it.

Yes, also, there could be people inside if it's an airship. China is kinda saying that it's "civilian."
Well we certainly wouldn't want to take out any Chinese civilians after they knocked out a million Americans with the 'Rona.

I can’t find it now, but the meme implying that it was Fang Fang sending Swallwell a Valentines balloon was quite hysterical.

The Chinese have to be amused at our response or lack there of.

They’ve been laughing since they bought the person who made the decision not to shoot it down. They’re probably passing the receipt around at a CCP meeting.

So, you are saying shoot first and ask questions later.

Break out our newest and latest untested lasers, pop it (if possible). Drop it 60,000 plus feet onto American soil, not knowing where it's going to come down, and then hope that it really WAS a spy balloon, and not a research vessel with scientists on board.

I'm one of the few here who think it isn't some devastating foreign policy foul not to blow this thing up, and even I think that scenario is absurd.

It’s already been explained to you that American fighter jets have a higher ceiling than what you’re claiming. You’re embarrassing yourself.
