That’s what I said. Apparently you struggle with the purpose of quotation marks. I’m sitting next to my 80 year old father. He majored in Environmental Science at UT and his father worked at Oak Ridge for 9 years. He’s laughing at you. Thanks for this, he’s been a little grumpy since the Florida game the other night.
So your father who worked at some job at Oak Ridge at some point in the past says the US doesn't currently have the capability to detect radiation emitting from a giant balloon?
I've obviously been questioning the "shoot it down immediately" philosophy and my thoughts are: if they have some reason to believe that it isn't much of a threat as is, why risk killing somebody when you bring it down? My more recent thought is, "if it isn't doing much damage, why show them how we would react if it were a real threat?"I think you collect all intelligence you can from it and then take it down one way or another. The fact that it’s a CHINESE SPY anything over the mainland US and some people find a way to minimize this is beyond me. I guarantee that if the situation were reversed the same people would be criticizing our tactics and praising the Chinese or Russians for taking it down.

Other countries didn't need us to teach them how to act poorly, or nobly for that matter. And my, well, two points are: 1. It's nothing new. 2. We are just as guilty as the Chinnies, indeed our example taught them to pull off such shenanigans. It's no different than when at one point, the USA told the DPRK, if you make the wrong move, North Korea will cease to exist. So NK, went all out to copy us by developing and deploying their own nukes. Guess what? All we did was provide them a fine example on being a a Duke Nukem bully. No it's no surprise the Chinnies have also taken chapter from our own book.
North Korea warns of 'all-out' nuclear weapons response to 'threats' from U.S., allies I'm not whatabouting as certain factions in the forum do. I'm expounding the truth of the adage that what sow is what you reap.
