Chinese spy balloon hovering over Montana

Where is John Kirby to brag about how prepared they are to shoot down these hostile balloons versus the last administration? Well at least the ET enthusiasts don't have to worry because it wasn't him.

Bottlecap Balloon Brigade - an Illinois hobby group - claims its $13 weather balloon last pinged near Yukon on February 10 - hours before F-22 brought down UFO in SAME area with $400k missile

A mystery object shot down by U.S. fighter jets amid ongoing hysteria sparked by a Chinese spy balloon may have been a $12 inflatable launched by a hobby group in Illinois.

The Northern Illinois Bottlecap Balloon Brigade (NIBBB) reported one of its balloons 'missing in action' around the same location - and at the time time - a U.S. Air Force jet downed an unidentified object near Alaska using a $400,000 Sidewinder missile.

Did Joe Biden shoot down hobbyists $12 balloon with a $380,000 missile? | Daily Mail Online

please let this be true - please please

I'm on slow net tonight, but it would not surprise me if we popped some perfectly innocent balloons. Wouldn't be a shocker, and certainly within reason.

So let’s see. I gotta register a drone that flies over 100 ft but the FAA doesn’t get involved and require registrations, flight plan filing, and coordination for a hobby group to put a ballon up in civilian airliner airspace. Totally sounds legit.

These things are tiny, risk is minimal

I'm sure y'all would have been just perfectly fine if Biden let it float over the US at 20k feet and figured out what it was later.

ummm, according to the administration there are 100s or thousands of these.

gotta wonder why they chose the 3 that they did; particularly when Biden said today they weren't spy balloons from China or other adversaries.

interesting that while none of the three have been recovered we know they were not spy balloons nor attached to some adversary - assessed as private, or research or weather.

that assessment had to be made while they were in the air --- yet we still decided to shoot them down just days after the administration was criticized for letting a known Chinese spy balloon traverse the entire Pacific ocean and the US mainland and Alaska.

forgive my skepticism that these specific 3 represented danger to air travel

FAA 101: How to (Legally) Get Your High-Altitude Balloon to Near-Space

Launching a high-altitude balloon can be an amazing learning experience and very fun, but if you’re not careful you might end up breaking some laws! Luckily, with a proper understanding of the relevant rules and regulations, it’s easy to make sure your balloon and payload is safe and legal. Almost all amateur balloon payloads, including all those sold by Loonar, are designed to be exempt from FAA regulations so that you’re not required to do any of the stuff listed below in order to launch! However, if you’re looking to fly larger custom payloads, here’s what you need to keep in mind:
