The wins against Virginia, LSU, Alabama, and flashes of great play that come and go against the likes of Kentucky and Florida (game 2), are what makes CM so vulnerable to criticism. This team has enough talent to compete this year. Coaching is the missing ingredient.

Honest question....what happens in the @lsu, @bama, Xavier, Virginia games? Were we just lucky and fell into big wins? Do they have worse coaches than Zo? Did someone else coach those games?

This is a honest question and not meant in any way to defend Zo, I'm asking because I see the struggles and understand, but what's happening in those wins?

My take is we have more talent than all of the teams you mentioned and in those games Great talent overcame poor coaching. I truly believe this is a top 25 team or better from a talent perspective but coaching is keeping them from being a great team. If you disagree, name one coaching move CCM has made that has impressed you this year

The 1991-92 Tennessee team beat the Elite 8 Kentucky team 107-85 (the Unforgettables which lost to Duke), beat the SEC West champs (Arkansas), and won at Memphis and NC State. They were 14-9 (5-6 in the SEC) after 23 games. The team was coached by arguably the worst basketball coach in UT history. They finished 18-15. UT did not win those games because Wade Houston was a better coach than Rick Pitino or Nolan Richardson. Sometimes bad coaches win games against good/great coaches or teams.

IMO it's hard to take too much from a game here and there through the year. We're a talented enough team that if we catch a good team on a bad night and play well ourselves, we can beat them. It's college basketball. It's not too surprising that we've beaten a couple good teams this year. The sport has too much parity now for that not to happen.

Winning at Bama the way we did was pretty impressive, but dismiss that if you want. How about Virginia? Or Xavier on a neutral court?

Winning at Bama is only impressive because we finally beat them in that $hithole arena. They're 2 games out of last place, they're horrible.

Luckily for us UVA plays in a power conference so they get the benefit of the doubt with their record and has managed to somehow get Duke, UNC, Cuse and Pitt (the top 4 outside themselves) only once each. Their resume is not that impressive. They've basically lost to everyone of any relevancy except SMU and Pitt and are living off a schedule that's comprised of the conference bottom feeders. Replace ND and VT with Duke and Cuse and you're likely looking at a 7-8 loss team in a weaker than normal ACC.

But then he turned around and used it at Vandy where McRae did exactly what the reason Martin said was he liked it. Stood around.
I say that right?
Atta boys are always negated by aw $hits.

It's the talent overcoming the terrible coaching.
Those games are a glimpse of what we are actually capable of consistently with a legit coaching staff.

Umm, LSU's coach is one of the worst coaches ever. And if you have enough talent, you win some games. I thought Cuonzo would be a good coach, he's ****ing terrible. Great human being, no business coaching at a school that remotely cares about basketball

It's hilarious that someone will point to games against Virginia and Xavier and say "well what happened here" and not look at the first Florida game, the Vandy game, the NCState game, etc. and ask the same damn question.
