Lifted this off another site. Heard the first minute or so of the interview but had to run.

Lack of screens, terrible perimeter defense, Florida knew our plays and Coach doesn't run any counter plays to confuse a well coached team, simply doesn't get his best shooter open shots (pointed out the frustration from JordyMac)..Talked about some opposing coaches ripping how poorly coached Tennessee is this year...

Tony Jones was on Basilio yesterday and had very similar things to say. I know some might look at it as spite from Jones but what he says is no different than a lot of people here on this site (and others). Lack of structure. No adjusting. Just poor overall coaching.

Tennessee's offense is terrible. Period. The only points we score are either transition or 1 on 1 offense... awful

Honest question....what happens in the @lsu, @bama, Xavier, Virginia games? Were we just lucky and fell into big wins? Do they have worse coaches than Zo? Did someone else coach those games?

This is a honest question and not meant in any way to defend Zo, I'm asking because I see the struggles and understand, but what's happening in those wins?

Guys made more outside shots than we normally do, plain and simple.

Without doing the research, my recollection was they were hitting an unusually high percentage of their perimeter shots and they pushed the pace more than normal. When they rain the 3's, their hard to beat.

I think when guys hit shots, it makes it easier for everyone. Every team is going to have games where they hit shots, particularly given the talent we have on our team. When Jordy gets off to a good start, it makes it easier for others.

But what happens when he doesn't? And did you see the shots he made vs Fla early on that he made? They were pure 1 on 1 plays. They didn't come off of any plays. They were McRae dribbling the ball and getting room (the first was from 23 feet or so).

We're going to win games because of the guys we have on our team. But we don't get help from the bench, particularly when things get tough. You said it the other night. Down 1 under 3 to go and we draw up a play to go to Maymon? We don't foul down 6 with 1:30 to go? Fla predictably runs down the clock under a minute to shoot.

He's just missing the coaching gene. And has no help from others on the bench. It's not that "we" don't like Zo. It's not that "we" think Pearl is the only coach that can win at UT. It's the same thing national/regional guys like Gary Parrish, Seth Davis, Andy Glockner and Chris Dortch are saying.

It's pretty much blasphemous for these guys to say a bad word about a coach. In the middle of year 3 these guys are openly questioning Zo. We're not just making stuff up.

Like BTO says, the great Spart is right again. I think I am @ 76-1 this season. Was wrong about Barton coming in and getting the team up the floor.

Bama sucks and Xavier is nothing special and we split with them...Virginia is ok and LSU is highly overrated...Talent alone won those games and we just jumped on UVA early and often and pounded them...We are just better than LSU....Teams get hot sometimes and make the coaching look good....This staff is terrible and honestly it would not surprise me if We end up close to .500 before the season is over...Mizzou on the road and home are not going to be easy and We still got Kentucky for one more game...UGA might give us a game too...I hate feeling this way and hope we win them all but damn its hard to believe in this team after watching them all season.

We made 2 threes against Xavier when we beat them?

Hey man...what do you expect when they're being coached to shoot outside by this guy?

I think that those teams probably didn't even scout us, or if they did, they certainly didn't use their 'A' scouter. No doubt the reason we drilled UVA was because we shot lights out, and the other teams we totally out-talented them.
Sometimes having more talent is enough if you play against marginal coaching. We see what happens when we play against lesser talent, with good coaching (UTEP, NC State, Vandy, among others).

florida is a good team that plays strong defense, while UT has limited offensive talent. We had chances but just did not play well offensively for various reasons.

We were hitting shots and most of the teams you listed on that particular night couldn't throw the basketball in the ocean.

I'd guess we are near the bottom in the league in transition points. We are coached to be a halfcourt team.

Our best player (and leading scorer) is a great 1-on-1 offensive player, so it would only make sense that we score a lot of points in 1-on-1 situations.

You're right though, the offensive gameplan, and too often, the execution, is awful.

He's not the worst coach, but as true Tennessee basketball fans will tell you, "if you aint first yore last. perl is number 1"

That is just basketball.

Most talented team doesn't always win

Best coached team doesn't always win

Most prepared team doesn't always win

That is why March Madness is such a beloved time of year. We see all of this in full force.

But the other SEC coaches love having Cuonzo at UT.
How can we possibly let him go when he's so loved by the competition?

The issue here is we're beating inferior teams. The truth is Martin is not a very good coach. He has no clue and how to handle the talent he has. I don't feel he has an identity as a coach other than in the beginning they played tough D. He needs to go...I would love to have Bruce back but it's not happening. He won't be fired unless we start seeing 3,000 people at the games and those leave at halftime

I think the bigger issue is that we are NOT beating inferior teams. UTEP, NCSU, aTm, and Vandy are all inexcusable losses, and make up half of our loss total. Beat those four teams, and we are likely not having these discussions.
