Maybe it’s not that they were more comfortable letting Gaston sling it, maybe they just thought it would open more things up for both the running game and the short to intermediate stuff. Have those safeties back up a little bit. Most defenses when they see a backup go in they seem to want to stack the box thinking there’s no way the backup is going to be allowed to take shots so maybe Heup wanted to show the other team that’s not the case. They seemed more confident throwing the ball deep with moore and its not like Nico has been lighting it up this season and been the major reason we're winning games.
Run the ball well and Play defense like we have all season. If moore can hit a couple deep shots we can win. I dont know why people are saying we have no chance.
Nico’s throw also travelled 60 yards down the field though. Coaches are probably telling him to put more air in those throws to give the receivers a chance to fight for it. Usually you want to see the WR go up for that one but Donte has been pretty good at deceiving the db and putting his hands up at the last second before the ball gets there giving the db no time to react. AJ Brown is really good at doing this.I’m not arguing that Nico isn’t better than Moore. You’re likely correct. But as far as Saturday goes I’m not sure you’re correct. Moore threw a few great balls that were prob TDs if not for the PI. One if the TDs that Nico threw was a terrible throw that our receiver made a great adjustment on and came back to.
Confirmation this morning on what I posted Tuesday night. All signs point yes for Saturday unless Nico suffers a setback.I wasn’t going to post b/c some will flame away and ask for proof. With that said, I will give you my $.02 and the info my son divulged. He’s a senior @ UT w friends (walk-ons) @ UT, etc.
Nico practiced today. Bear is either making up or someone w/in the program spoke hypotheticals and Bear took it as absolute. Bear had an agenda as he is no longer employed with ESPN.
Nico is still in protocol but practiced today. The medical team and coaches will monitor Nico and make a decision on Thursday, unless he feel worse tomorrow.
Gaston is getting more reps just in case.
Bear is chasing a story imo. He is speculating. Nobody told him Nico wasn’t playing. Someone inside confirmed Nico was in protocol. Any of us fans could have a 50-50 chance to guess right.Yes .... but the first game he started after Robinson's injury was against Georgia Tech and we scored 6 points. The game ended in a tie. It was our worst offensive performance of the season. Granted, Georgia Tech's defense was very good that year. They had Pat Swilling. Still, we did struggle in the first game with Dickey at QB.
I think all of this speculation is moot though. There is no reason to believe that Chris Fallica or anyone with Sports Illustrated would have inside information at Tennessee that the local press wouldn't also have. Someone said that the spread wouldn't be 10 points if Nico was playing ... as if oddsmakers and bettors have inside info as well. That's ridiculous too.
C'mon, I am trying to attract attention to myself? I am just making an observation. No need to insult a fellow Vol here. This is a forum for opinions my friend. There is nothing to base that on. There is no reason to believe that Sports Illustrated or anyone else has information that wouldn't be available to the local sports media in Knoxville. They are speculating, and doing so in a way that will attract attention and so are you. If Heupel says he will play, then that is what I would count on. As others have said, nothing is gained by lying here. Georgia isn't preparing for Gaston Moore either way.
Your argument would be wrong then. If Heup had more confidence in Moore's ability to throw, Moore would be QB. Moore was bailed out with PI's on his deep shots. One in particular he had MK WIDE open on what would have been at the VERY LEAST 30 yards, instead he looks around and chunks it deep. We need deep shots here and there timed right to keep defense honest but we are gonna have to take what UGA gives us and cannot afford to give them the ball. Not true. You guys act like Nico has been some QB god. He's been far from it. That’s not a knock on Nico. I think he will eventually be great. Moore would for sure have to protect the ball better, but could put up mediocre stats with the kind of games we’ve been calling. I’d argue that Heup has more confidence in Moore throwing after the calls we saw last week with Nico out.
Bailed out? They were good throws into single coverage with a high probability of connecting if not for the PI. You guys will dog someone for anything. Nico has missed more than his fair share of open receivers EVERY game. I’m not saying Moore should start, but Nico definitely isn’t this huge upgrade you are painting him out to be. I hope he will be one day, but he’s not shown it yet.Your argument would be wrong then. If Heup had more confidence in Moore's ability to throw, Moore would be QB. I’m not saying it was an awful throw, it was in single coverage and he gave his guy a shot. But it wasn’t on target either. The goal his to hit your guy in stride.Nico’s throw also travelled 60 yards down the field though. For sure. It’s still better than an overthrow though. Before that one he’s been starting to hit receivers in stride. It’s just been a toss up whether they catch it or not.I’m not saying it was an awful throw, it was in single coverage and he gave his guy a shot. But it wasn’t on target either. When you are referring to a QB getting teed off on, common sense football talk means the defense is going to get to him and how do they do that? By getting through the O-line. That’s pretty straight forward when you’re talking football. Gaston Moore will have the same protection as Nico. The same defense that will “tee off” on GM will “Tee off” on Nico unless our line does what they are suppose to do.Well, he didn't say anything about the O-line. He clearly means that UGA will be able to pin their ears back on GM because he's less mobile and just generally not nearly as good a QB as Nico. It seemed pretty straightforward.
The last deep ball Moore threw down the west sideline (to his right, heading towards the south end zone) was a terrible mistake. He had 87 running WIDE OPEN over the middle for a 30-35 yard gain. Instead, he threw deep on a low % throw and missed by about 3 yards. Mistakes like that get you beat against good teams.
He did fine in a tough situation against the worst D in the SEC. But acting like Moore isn’t a titanic drop off from Nico is whistling through the graveyard.
Does anyone remember the 85 season when the great Tony Robinson went down for the season . A guy took over the qb reigns named Darryl Dickey , the media was saying he was not a sec starting qb, ask Miami hurricanes that question today .
I just disagree that what you’re asserting is common sense football talk. GM is much less mobile, and Nico is able to evade and stay free when the O-line busts in ways GM just won’t be able to.When you are referring to a QB getting teed off on, common sense football talk means the defense is going to get to him and how do they do that?
