Chris Fallica says Nico will not play this weekend.

Yes .... but the first game he started after Robinson's injury was against Georgia Tech and we scored 6 points. The game ended in a tie. It was our worst offensive performance of the season. Granted, Georgia Tech's defense was very good that year. They had Pat Swilling. Still, we did struggle in the first game with Dickey at QB.

I think all of this speculation is moot though. There is no reason to believe that Chris Fallica or anyone with Sports Illustrated would have inside information at Tennessee that the local press wouldn't also have. Someone said that the spread wouldn't be 10 points if Nico was playing ... as if oddsmakers and bettors have inside info as well. That's ridiculous too.
Man, I remember being at that game as a kid.
We left early thinking we had lost, and then heard a roar from the crowd walking back to our car parked on Neyland Dr.
Think Reveiz maybe hit a long FG to tie it up late.

CBS just released an interesting article about holding Nico out.

It states if we were to lose without him the committee may put an asterisk on that loss, improving our chances at the playoffs with a loss.

CBS Sports
Well last year they held out a P5 conference champ because their QB was out. The committee is driven by money via ESPN. They want the best brands.. They may put Bama in over us with the same record because they love that script A and know it will drive engagement / money.

Chris Fallica has a history of hating the Vols and VolNation. It wouldn't surprise me if there was information out there and most are being respectful with releasing it, whereas he doesn't care and will just say whatever so he can claim "first" if he's right.

I know Vol fans will hold him accountable on X if he was wrong.

BTW, this is not me saying I agree. Just an observation.

He was out for the year. Not for a game that they lost.

Seriously? That guy was out FOR THE YEAR!! If you can't see a major difference here I don't know what to tell you

Moore is nowhere near as capable as Nico, hence why he's the backup.

ZERO chance with Moore to beat GA.

* I guess that one pass INT was JH holding the Nintendo controls...
I disagree wholeheartedly.Nico, while improving, has not set the college football world on fire.Eventually he'll get there(I think) but he's only slightly above average at best currently imo.

Honestly, I'd be a little nervous if Nico plays - assuming he suffered a concussion. Dr. Google says it takes 7-10 days for a brain Nico's age to heal from a concussion. We have Gaston AKA Gas Pipe, who has been in Heupel's season for 5 years. He doesn't have the playmaking ability of Nico, but he should be able to manage a game and he's looked like a decent passer when given opportunities to play.

What makes me feel like we can still win this game is the fact that our guys are a nasty bunch of dudes accustomed to competing in ugly football games. If we need this game to be ugly for us to win, there's no better bunch to pull it off than the 2024 Vols.

I agree. We aren't going to be in a louder environment all year than we will be Saturday night, and he may simply not be able to take it.

If Nico practiced in any capacity it’s because he has passed all previous testing. His status is to be determined because there are more steps to pass. If any symptoms return through the week, he won’t play. But if he practiced in any capacity it’s because he’s been symptom free. Here’s the NFL guidelines. I’ll even say he would not even be dressed for practice if he were having any symptoms. Doesn’t mean he’s playing, but means he’s been symptom free so far. Typically you go to the next phase over a 24 hour period. Would make sense that today would be phase 3.
Exactly. No one would know if he's out yet, unless he has not been practicing, which he has. Chris Fellatio is making stuff up.

thats a good point I hadn't thought about

he may be able to play, but will he be able to be himself

They held out a P5 champ bc they sucked w/o him vs a bad Florida team and a Louisville team that lost to a bad Kentucky team @ home the week before. FSU was not even one of the best 12 teams last year, let alone top 4.

I don't think he needs to be, Yankee.

With all the other advantages we have, Gaston only has to be a good game manager, and protect the football. He only has to hit enough passes to keep the defense spread out so the running game can eat.

Go Vols!
Exactly!

The Vols aren't 8-1 because of Nico. He's had a rather pedestrian freshman campaign and a lot of growing pains. The wins are because the defense holds every opponent to less than 20 points a game and Dylan Sampson is carving the opposing defense up with 100+ yards on the ground. What's going to change if Gaston Moore has the reigns? Lean more on the run game and defense? That's what we're doing already.

Vegas line is not Vols +10 if Nico is playing.

If it's Gaston, Josh will go into Saban QB game manager role and tell him to be like Greg McElroy/Mac Jones/AJ McCarron and let the D win it.

You said it. So when you say that Georgia can and will tee off on Gaston, just exactly what were you meaning? I’m just curious if there are different ways to interpret this.
Well, he didn't say anything about the O-line. He clearly means that UGA will be able to pin their ears back on GM because he's less mobile and just generally not nearly as good a QB as Nico. It seemed pretty straightforward.
