Chris Ledlum Enters the Transfer Portal

I see this as a good thing. The last practice report stated he was looking to be a pretty good player. We are just really deep this year. I really hope Aidoo can step up. We need a legit big so bad. Awaka I am excited about. Not the biggest but so physical.

Very disappointed in this news. He gave us an element we could use this year, both in the paint, ability to drive the ball and get on the FT line. Oh well, I assume he didn’t fit in with the area or team. Good news is that we are still deep but more reliant on perimeter offense. This news may help give more minutes to Awaka at the 4 and open up more minutes for Estrella at the 5 perhaps. Jefferson as well probably benefits. Will be good to see them on the court soon.

And losing Ledlum sucks because he actually had two years of eligibility remaining and no risk of leaving for the draft. Sight unseen, and it's perhaps a bit risky, but I think I'd rather take my chances of having him for 2 years than JJJ for 1 even knowing what we have in JJJ. Too much injury risk with him.

Unless you count intangibles, JJJ didn't appear to offer the upside that Ledlum did on offense. Unless JJJ shows the best of himself, he is a low volume scorer who is unreliable on the offensive end.

I still see this as a rush to judgment why Ledlum left, but count me in as disappointed and I was looking forward to potentially new offensive punch.

JJJ averaged 10 pts and almost 2 ast last year. How many did you expect from Ledlum?

I didn't have any expectations but clearly he was a guy capable of giving 19 a night. The Harvard I saw in the tournament had talent and was good.

Competition this year is all time for Barnes teams. The young guns are definitely ahead for Freshman JJJ by all reports is in best shape since Freshman year so this is a deep team and Ludlum Bolted. Go Vols. In CHRIST Alone

Sometimes it isn’t the number of pts you score but how you score. Ledlum may have been a guy who could potentially get the ball in the paint and score and/or get fouled and go to the FT line. If we don’t have anyone who can consistently score in the paint our perimeter players will be less effective. I think the only guy we have to feed the post now is Awaka. Not really Aidoo’s game. Maybe Estrella but he is young. Perhaps Knecht is flexible enough to score at every level but he isn’t a banger. Definitely not something JJJ does. When in paint he seems to be exclusively a turnaround fade away jump shooter. Barnes needs to embrace small ball this year.

Kind of disappointing to see him go. I was intrigued by his skill set. He didn’t strike me as a star, but definitely capable of being a solid contributor. The good news is we still have plenty of options and depth.

Harvard didn’t make the postseason and hasn’t since 2019 at which time Ledlum wasn’t even on their roster…

I hope the 19 was a type-o and you really meant 10. 19 per night in the Ivy League doesn’t translate to 19 per night in the SEC. I don’t disagree that he would have been a nice piece to have, but he would have been splitting minutes with JJJ, Mashack, and Jefferson.

This will not compute for the segment of posters who have been building him up as a double-double guy before he ever even played a game for us
Cmon, this is classic “Didn’t want him anyway” when a recruit goes elsewhere. Every summer report is glowing about every player until they leave, then suddenly we find out they’re struggling.

With the injury keeping him in Knoxville I could see this being a huge problem. Brand new unfamiliar place with no family or friends or teammates nearby, if it's too much to deal with I could understand.

I’d reckon that the staff first checks the portal for PGs and bigs before automatically putting JJJ back on scholarship. But they probably stay up to date on that information every single day.

My bad. I got Princeton mixed up with Harvard.

We don't know how the 19 points would translate because I'm sure Harvard has some players that could get 19 points last year on us. Heck Kentucky was a bad team and their shooters lit us up.

Regarding 'wanting to get back closer to home' I talked to Ledlum at youth basketball camp and mentioned that I'm a fellow New Yorker and also went to school in Mass. He asked me what I thought of Knoxville and said it was definitely different, so maybe he wasn't feeling it. Had a similar conversation with Awaka a year ago, it is an adjustment for players coming from NY.
You need to do us a solid and say "Great!" You can understand chemistry but not this? 😂 We're going to have to send you to social interaction lab.

Ugh. I’m gutted. I was so excited for his addition, was high on him. I hope it really was just homesickness but I’m skeptical, like others I’d have preferred to keep Ledlum over bringing Josiah back for another yet. We’ll have to pray that JJJ can stay healthy
Sorry, dude.

You're sure? The Kentucky game must have been the only one you watched
