Chris Low and Paul Finebaum report charlie strong front-runner for UT job

wbir channel 10 reports gundy is in the lead but if it is strong he has my support was he not myers defensive cordinator when florida was so good or am I wrong

This fanbase is crazeeeeeeeeee.....Honestly who did you guys think we would get? The reality of the situation is that this is a rebuilding job. I think Coach Strong would be a better hire IMHO than Gundy. If Strong is hired, I think the fanbase needs to get behind him. While at UF his defenses wreaked havoc on the SEC, including Tennessee. Give this guy the benefit of the doubt and leave race out of it. :machgun::spank:
I'm in but thats sounds like the same talk as when we hired Dooley. I hope it's rebuilt this time.

Living in the Louisville area I have never been high on Strong. There were other candidates that, although aren't perfect, seem to be better hires, but if UT will pay for the assistants then maybe we can do something. I think most of us wanted the WOW, we have got the NOW instead. Go Vols!

Strong is best candidate out there.
1. SEC experience
2. Defensive mind(Offense not a problem at UT)
3. Recruiting machine
4. Learned Big Time Football from one of the best.
5. Proven rebuilder.
6. Can develop winning culture.

You people are clueless. Louisville was a dumpster fire when he took over and now theyre playing in a BCS bowl game. When is the last time we played in one of those?

Im really starting to think theres a race issue here.

Stupidity is color blind. I think some of the brightest on here are so butt hurt that Gruden (a complete long shot) is not coming that anything else is viewed as a complete failure.

Anyone look at Louisville's Rival page? Strong does not have a single 4 star committed. Im not sure how this is a powerhouse hire.

Actually, they have a 4 star OLB from FL committed, which shows he still has a lot of pull in that area. In his first year as HC he pulled 3 ESPN top 150 players straight out of Miami. Would be huge to start pulling big time talent from FL.

Look....

If a guy can rescue a very much losing team in LOUISVILLE and end up in a BCS bowl with 10+ wins - he's doing something right - especially when you consider the SEC and Big 10 schools that regularly and often poach his recruiting area (probably 200+ mile radius of Louisville).

If Strong lines up against Dooley 10 times, he probably wins 8 of em' with Dools losing some of those b/c of too many men on the field, poor clock mgmt or taking the game into overtime instead of going for the win with 2 timeouts and 2 first rounders at WR.

Its not a race thing to me. I don't care if the coach has green skin, so long as he can coach and keep us away from NCAA violations in the future. My problem with Strong is his record of 24 - 14 at Louisville. I do not believe he has the experience to coach a major SEC program, at least not at the level that will please the Vol fan base. If he is hired... I hope I'm wrong and he does a great job. I simply believe Hart can do much better... if he is willing to shell out the greenbacks to do so.
. Ill pose the same question to you. What makes you say that Strong's resume is less distinguished than Meyer or Richt? Or Saban before he took the LSU job?

I do not think that anyone who knows anything about recruiting thinks Strong would not get great talent to UT.

KY has NO TALENT. Talent to the north is going to Mich, OSU, or ND. L'ville has to recruit FL and distant places... and that is a tough sell.

I feel like giving him the benefit of the doubt is being brought up because this is not a home run hire( if true) the fan base can feel confident with. Didn't we say the same thing about Dooley for 2 years? I personally want to be done with questioning if we can compete in the SEC each year.

I agree, im a little disappointed if these reports wind up being true (dont see why they wouldnt be), if charlie strong is the BEST hire. I would have been a little happier w/ a Gundy hire.

No way. Strong knows southern recruiting grounds and has SEC experience. Gundy recruits Midwest and the only thing he has going for him is a well publicized rant.

How can you even compare the two teams. The talent level in SEC is much different than BIG EAST. That being said, he will not have the Louisville recruiting budget at K-Town and he will be recruiting to SEC BABY.

Go tell Utah they will never beat Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.....oh wait they already did!!!!

The point is those are his recruits no matter what star they were. They still gotta go play the game!!!

good deal vader, Strong would be a good hire,he would bring a great defensive mind to UT,he can get a good OC i'm sure,or keep Chaney, just real him in on some play calling and UT will be set for the offense, along with Graham and Pittman and the article just said front runner
