Chris Low says : Memphis moving toward Pearl offer!

With the arean and the practice facilites and the fan support of the TEnnessee basketball team, whoever comes in is going to have a good chance of winning. I like what Bruce has done but if he is trying to get a raise because of Memphis trying to get him than I say let him go. He should get raises on performance, not who all wants him and the truth is, he has never got past the sweet 16. Pay him for the results not who is wanting him. A raise was warranted 2 years ago, but after this year he does not deserve another raise considering he is one of the top paid coaches in the country.

It is amazing to me that there are people on this site that think CBP has not done anything for a raise. Where was this program 5 years ago? Where is it now? Yes, we had a mediocre season, but that is going to happen. 22 wins was one helluva year for UT Basketball 5 years ago. Unbelievable how spoiled we have gotten in such a short period of time.

Somehow, I doubt Bruce complained about the facilities. Without a direct quote from him, I'm withholding judgment.

If the University of Tennessee is serious about big time men's basketball, they will pay Pearl $3-4 million a year. He is worthy of that type of money and should be paid it. he is one of the best coaches in the country and should be compensated as so.

Why is he worthy of that kind of money?

He has also had a direct influence on the expenditures of basketball operations. The steam is still coming off the $15m Pratt Pavilion. We just renovated TBA. If he's really using this as an excuse to lobby for "upgrading facilities" somehow, then he can go screw himself.

Do we know he is using this to lobby for more or are we going to take someone else's word that has not spoken to CBP. I read the Chris Low article and he did not mention anything about speaking directly with CBP.

Better learn to take things reported in the media with a grain of salt. There may be some truth, but don't take as the gospel.

He got his raise. He's one of the highest-paid coaches in the country. We've spent almost $40m upgrading our facilities since he got here.

If that's not good enough, then let him go.

You see that conditional clause up there? Reading is fundamental.

Actually, Coach Pearl is not one of the highest paid coaches in the country. And there is no proof that the facilities are an issue.

The facilities issue has got to be a misunderstanding. Pearl might want a raise but facilities are not the issue.

Selling out every home game and Luxury Box for the past three years. Team in the NCAA tournament 4 years in a row.

That is what BBall coaches get paid to do.

You want to pay him on the same level as guys that have gotten to the Final Four and won the whole thing?

You're talking about paying him for results he hasn't delivered.

I would much rather Pearl PROVE He is worth that kind of money before giving it to him...Get us to some final 4's and then We can talk....I do not like the holding the school hostage type of stuff....He's making a hell of a living now as it is.

So you are saying that Bruce Pearl should get paid like he has won a national championship even though he has never gotten close?

CBP's Base Salary this year is 1.6m. Anthony Grant just got 2m from Alabama, and Georgia is going to pay 2m for a new head coach.

Don't you think CBP deserves more than these two for what he has done?

And if it keeps him from Memphis, pay him!

I'll tell you what he has done!

Before he arrived, we were maybe half capacity for home games at TBA. Since CBP's arrival, we sell out every home game, and all luxury boxes. I believe CBP has had direct influence on the increase in revenue brought in by the Basketball operations.

Now Mike Hamilton set the precedence with the increase in asst coaches pay on the Football side and they will and is going to trickle into the Basketball staff.

Pay the man!

So you mean to tell me that CBP is worth 3 mill. per year?

That's just the way the business works. Do NFL rookies deserve 20 plus million guaranteed?

Vince Young is stealing money from the Titans.

I tell you what I am starting to hope for.

I hope CBP leaves for Memphis, and every so called TN fan on this and other sites that do not appreciate what he has done over the past 4 years are happy with the end results. It's amazing to me how short memories are with some fans.

Do we know it is going to take 3m, or are we once again believing everything thrown at us?

I am saying what he has done at UT deserves being compensated accordingly. If that # is 3 m. Pay him.

Maybe you should go to govols and read the latest article which states his current base is 1.6m. He has a bonus that kicks in next year for 500K.

I want Bruce to stay just as much as anybody.

So what will happen if somebody comes in here and takes TEnnessee to a couple of Final 4's or does something that Bruce has not done(Win the SEC or get past the sweet 16)
