This is Chris Walker's mother. It really grieves me that this thread has turned into such a disaster. Chris' comments on Rivals.com was in no way intended to make it a personal thing. Chris is not out to get Tim Tebow. I am fully aware that there is a brave new world out there in college football. Chris' successes at Christian Brothers High School cannot be compared to what he is about to experience as a member of the football team at The University of Tennessee. He is not living in a fantasy world. He knows that he is coming in at the bottom. That being said, I want everyone to know that Chris never meant for this to be taken so serious. There certainly has been a valuable lesson learned. Chris is a great competitor. He's NOT a trash-talker. Never has been. His comment was not meant to be interpreted as such. In fact, as competitive as his high school career was in Memphis, he made friends with the very guys he played against every Friday night for four years. My point is that when Chris sees Tim Tebow, whenever that is, he will treat Tim with the same respect that he treats some of his biggest rivals in Memphis. The same guys he went to battle against on Friday nights were STILL his friends on Saturday morning. Nothing changed.
Chris and I spoke last night in great detail concerning his story and his comment. My job as a parent is to be TOTALLY supportive of my son and to give him advice on life lessons. I know what his intent was in making that comment. It was not meant in a boastful manner. If he gets the opportunity to play against Tim, he will shake his hand before and after the game no matter what the outcome. That's the kind of young man he is.
My request is that we let this go and move on. Chris has learned a very valuable lesson. I understand where most of you are coming from when you say that he has no right to make comments when he hasn't stepped foot on UT's campus yet and you are in some ways right. However, Chris knows that when the time comes, whether it is in this fall or next year, he will be ready for the challenge of the SEC.
PLEASE, LET"S MOVE ON!
