Clarence Thomas in Hot Water (Alito too!)

OK, whataboutism aside.

I don’t think Supreme Court justices should be for sale, period. It’s hard to be impartial when you are accepting gifts big enough to be life-changing.

I guess I’m too naive.
They all have accepted gifts/trips/benefits, whatever you want to call it. This isn’t limited to Thomas.

I don’t doubt it. I’ve also read that they collectively refuse to any updated rules regarding ethics standards. I just find that really disappointing for judges.

I host government employees at work all the time as a contractor. We are not allowed to even pay for their lunch. They have to put money into a jar if we bring in food. I think they can accept “swag” type items up to $50 in value.

It's clear that Thomas is corrupt and that he should resign. He's apparently been little more than Harlan Crows lackey for
many years. He has no legitimacy as a judge. Even beyond the grifting, he's always been a partisan hack with a crazy, radically conservative wife who's
deep into political issues and was involved in trying to cheat Biden out of his election win.

Let's all recall, for a moment, how conservative members of the Supreme Court cheated Al Gore out of the presidency---or probably did--when they voted not to allow the Florida recount to go forward.

As for other Supremes accepting gifts, travel, I'd be happy to see an accounting of everything accepted by each judge over the last, say, 5 years. I'd bet anyone a 5-star dinner that the "family values" conservatives have been the worst offenders.

The second paragraph is as obviously correct as it is completely irreconcilable with the first. If he was always a partisan hack (he was and is and was appointed for specifically that reason) then what corrupt motive or corrupt result could there be?

The situation evinces a need for rules governing gifts to justices (good luck enforcing it) but calling for him to resign over something that was allowed and that had no discernible effect is just as dumb as claiming it was just a boat ride.

The hits just keep coming from Thomas. Damn, this guy is corrupt as hell.

For a man who hates welfare, he sure doesn't seem to mind getting welfare from Mr. Crow.

You guys are funny--a bit dense, but funny.

Sotomayor was paid to write a book--a basic commercial transaction that is completely above board and one that many public figures engage
in. I presume she reported the deal and it wasn't secret. Random House is a book publisher and not engaged in partisan political activities. Sotomayor
did not go on luxury trips with Random House executives, and we can be quite sure that Random House has not bought any houses from Sotomayor while Sotomayer relatives continue to live in said house.

Harlan Crow is a major conservative political donor and activist with an interest in many different political/commercial issues. He's made Thomas his bought and paid for judicial lackey. He's had Thomas on a string for many years. Various other officials with conservative special-interest groups have been on luxury trips with Crow and Thomas. Thomas has never reported any of the many financial favors that Crow has done for him--which suggests strongly that Thomas knew his activities were unethical if not unlawful and tried to keep them a secret.

In other words, there is nothing remotely similar here--it's the usual lame stab at equivalency by conservatives. A one-time book deal has nothing in common with secretly taking money and many other favors from a political donor for many years. And you can bet that Crow--and other GOP/right-wing political donors--have done other favors for Thomas that have not yet come to light. I have zero doubt about that. There's probably a lot more to the Thomas scandal that's not yet public knowledge.

As for whether Sotomayor should have recused herself from the Random House case, we don't know what the case was--but it was likely commercial and not political, which is important. Not exactly the same as not recusing yourself from a case in which your radical wife was deeply involved. I'm not saying Sotomayor shouldn't have recused herself--maybe she should have--but I've not yet seen what the case was about. But her one-time book deal should not be lumped together with what the corrupt Thomas has been doing.

But the company that owns PRH sure is engaged in political activities, and the company that owns that company is 100% foreign owned.

Sotomayor accepted trips to Spain paid for by the ACLU and sat on trials that were brought up by and against the ACLU, is that not more of a conflict then gifts from someone who hasnt had a case in front of the SCOTUS.

3M dollars received for her deal with PRH and she’s only married to the money. It’s only takes one massive payment to cross over to corrupt, not sure there is different levels after the first one happens.

Charlie Kirk states in clearly:

The Kremlin attacked by armed drones risking escalation with a nuclear power.

A massive banking collapse where 50% of American banks may be insolvent.

Protesters trying to ruin a man's life because he dared to step in and protect the public from a madman with 44 priors in New York.

The US Military missing its recruiting goals again and again and doubling down on woke and stupid by enlisting drag queens.

Joe Biden caught up in a pay-for-play scheme involving bribes from a foreign national in exchange for policy decisions.

IRS Whistleblower coming forward to incriminate Merrick Garland for blocking an investigation into Hunter Biden.

Antony Blinken committing brazen election interference by colluding with 51 former intel officials to lie about Hunter Biden's laptop just weeks before the 2020 election.

And the left wants to talk about a friend of Clarence Thomas, who had no business in front of the court, helping put a kid in need through school. It's a game of distraction. Stay focused.

Are Charlie Kirk's followers unable to talk about multiple things?

He’s just mad that your distractions are different than the ones he wants to focus on.

So they should ignore the lack of ethics oversight for the supreme court?

Not at the expense of the 7 items Charlie Kirk listed above. To help your further, Charlie is pointing out the laser like focus of the media on this issue at the expense of the other important issues where the investigations for truth and oversight are much less.

If you can't think about multiple things at once that's on you.

I can and hopefully you as well. The issue is the media who cannot unless you can start pointing out the indepth investigative reporting on the other issues. Don't take it so personal.
