Closing strong in the portal

I hope we get them both... i think if nolan enters tennessee will 100% pursue him. DL AND OL is a position you cannot have enough of.

I don't disagree, I just question the seriousness and the motives of the public pot stirring in lieu of actual action.

Why is everyone so focused on Walter Nolan?I never heard his name mentioned much. He may not be as good as advertised. Who knows though, development is key.

Do you normally hear the names of Texas A&M Defensive Tackles mentioned much?

His 29 total tackles, 17 solo, would rank him first among our DLs this past season. And he did it as a true freshman adjusting to SEC play. Probably one of the reasons he made the College Football News' Freshman All American Team.

Another DB would be nice. Howevuh-an edge with 8-10 sacks would help any DB we get

Ummm.... there was a grand total of 4 players in the entire SEC that tallied 8+ sacks this past season. And one of them, (Will Anderson Jr. w/10) is expected to go in the top 3 picks of the NFL draft, so I don't think he'll be coming to us through the portal.

And the reason he isn’t going anywhere. The good news is Walter Nolan isn’t the only talented DLineman out there. As long as we got a great Dline coach we will get our share and he will coach them up! GBO

If we can close with Walter Nolan, Igbinosun, and maybe another linebacker would be massive. A lot of smoke with Igbinosun but also supposible visiting other big time programs so time will tell. Walter posted the portal is looking good and with him living in knoxville previously and Rodney G we have to be considered a very strong favorite to land him if he really does decide to enter.

Id like to see us sign leaner faster linebackers....or better coverage linebackers... relying mostly on the DLine to control line of scrimmage and stop the run game.

Walter Nolen??? He isn’t even in the portal is he?

“The No. 1 overall recruit showed encouraging signs as a pass rusher, posting a 13% pressure rate that ranked sixth among Power Five interior defensive linemen with at least 120 pass-
rushing snaps. That mark also led the SEC, which is even more impressive considering who finished in second. That would be Georgia’s Jalen Carter, PFF’s No. 2 prospect in the 2023 NFL Draft.”

He wouldnt think twice about welcoming him home.. lol

I think he already HAS ... and moved well past him.

Walter Nolen isn't currently in the portal.. He did tease that 'the portal is looking good', but he seems to like the attention. Regardless, he wouldn't be able to enter the portal until after spring practice (I believe May 1st) regardless.

Igbinosun, though.... want.
Who is Ig? I don’t see a thread in him?

Nolen and family are not worth the headache. Nolen is a legend in his own mind. He thinks he is still in high school and doesn't have to work to improve. Mr. Gardner likes men that like to work to get better. Nolen and family are a great fit for Jimbo the snake. He doesn't like to work either.

This…

Some see the stars and talent and think it’s a no-brainer to take him…it’s clear this staff is legitimately concerned about their locker room dynamics…from everything I’ve read about this kid I do not think he’s a fit in that regard and therefore is not worth the risk

I sincerely wish fans weren't this way. Having such definitive opinions about a player before he plays a down with us. They become blinded to evidence that might state the contrary.

See Harrison Bailey for a recent example.
How many on here knew he was the next great? And this was based on measurables. Now many are forming strong opinions based on rumor and innuendo.

edit for spelling and frikking formatting. For some reason when posting from my phone, the cursor jumps all over the place while typing.

Not only that, but fans reacting to a vague comment with no context around it. People see that and immediately think: “Walter nolen is wanting to transfer.”

HOWEVER, what if Josh Heupel or Deion had posted the exact same thing. You’d read it to suggest that the talent IN the portal is looking good, not that either of them were trying to leave their respective positions.

No evidence to the contrary. Did you see the guy during the recruiting cycle? Did you see him play his senior year in high school? Only thing I’m saying he is not worth the risk to the locker room at UT. He has the size and all the tools to be great, I just don’t believe his work ethic is not in his DNA. I’m glad he went to Texas A&M. He thought he was too good for his hometown UT. I say good riddance!!

We need big enough LBs to tackle big RBs that UGA, UK, Bama, Florida all usually have

Pretty safe bet that Walter Nolan plays in Neyland Stadium next year…at least for one game. And if he’s still an Aggie I want to see how he handles the up tempo, no substitutions allowed Vol attack.
